In the second half of “You Was My Hero”, Allen (Seth Rogen) and the father of Mark Nolan / Omni-Man (JK Simmons) finally escape Viltrumite prison in which they were detained. Nolan reveals a key secret that gives Allen’s bosses, The Coalition of Planets, a lightness against the apparently unstoppable Viltrum Empire: there are less than 50 pure blood viltrums.
Even better, two of them are on the side of the heroes: Nolan, and the head of the Thaedus coalition (Peter Cullen, alias Optimus Prime). They may be good now, but you can always say that they are viltrumites by their mustaches. The defection of Thaedus and the meager numbers of the viltrits are linked: Thaedus, convinced that his people should be arrested whatever the cost, developed a “scourge virus” to eliminate them. The remaining 0.01% of the Viltrumites had natural immunity.
In “Invincible” # 88, Mark is accidentally exposed to the scourge virus, putting it in a coma and leaving it without power. While he is recovered, the BulletProof superhero (played in Jay Pharoah’s show) intensifies to fill up as invincible until Mark returns to # 98. (Bulletproof-as-invincible started in 2012 , a year after Miles Morales made its debut under the name of Spider-Man, and the arc has the impression that Kirkman responded to this by presenting A black successor to his own superhero.)
How does Mark survive? Its viltruct genes are particularly strong because it is secretly part of the Royal Viltrum line. When the characters learn this, they realize that it also makes Nolan the legitimate Viltrumite Emperor.
At the end of “invincible”, Mark clashes to take the throne of his father, leaving the earth behind Eve (expressed by Gillian Jacobs in the series) and their daughter, Terra. This functionally immortal family reform the viltruities of an empire to a force for good and justice; Viltrumite uniforms go from white / white and red to blue and yellow in honor of Mark. The very last page of “Invincible”, taking place far in the future, presents a brand “of average age” remembering the question that his father asked him a long time ago: “What will you have after 500 years ?! “
At Mark’s suggestion, the immortal intervenes to direct the Global Defense Agency (GDA) and maintain peace on earth. It ends up making a range to become the brutal king and that is what he refers when he says that Mark abandoned him. “Invincible” has changed certain details of the comics, but the overview is always the same. So hold the words of the Immortal, because they are almost certainly a sign of the way this animated story will take place.
