Taylor Sheridan has become the golden man on television. “Yellowstone” had relatively humble beginnings as a higher level cable show at a time when the Western genre was not triggered exactly in terms of popularity. However, we are a few years later, and Sheridan built an entire empire based on this show, with several fallout to support it. Such a spin-off, the prequel series “1923”, recently ended its second season on a tragic note.

Fans of the franchise probably wonder if season 3 of “1923” is in the cards. In short, this is not the case. Sheridan had a story he wanted to tell, and since the title of this particular series is based on a specific year, there will always be a finished number of episodes that he and paramount + could get out. Just like “1883” before him, it will be more a limited series than a series in progress.
“1923” focuses on the Dutton Ranch in the early 1900s. The second season resumed after an approximate winter caused new challenges and unfinished business in Jacob (Harrison Ford) and Cara (Helen Mirren). Hard conditions and adversaries threaten to end Dutton’s inheritance, Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) embarking on a dangerous return trip, running against time to save his family.

1923 Season 2 completed the history of the show
To be clear, it’s not as if Paramount no longer wanted stories centered on the Dutton family – they do it absolutely. Sheridan also has more of these stories to tell. It’s just that this particular show took its course. The final of season 2 of “1923” resolved a great mystery “Yellowstone” and served as the appropriate end for the show. In an interview in 2023 with DeadlineSheridan explained that “1923” was really a part the first and a second part, the two halves telling a complete story.

“This is really the second half of the season. This one is different from 1883 where I was blocked in my head. This one, I did not know what I was going to do. I just made a trip myself and I am the one who made the call to the network, which is probably the biggest call. Wrap it in two episodes and do justice for them, it is great because they get more content.
“It’s a book greenhouse. It is always limited, but I think that like a room – there is just a split in the middle, but it’s all one room. It will end,” said Sklenar The Hollywood Reporter In 2023, which was online with Sheridan’s comments. In other words, the story is over.

That said, the prequelles “Yellowstone” are not finished, and the history of the Dustes is far from over. In addition to the “Yellowstone” series centered on Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, Sheridan has also already confirmed his intention to return to the past to tell another story and fill other shortcomings in the Dutton family calendar.
Another spin-off from Yellowstone will resume where 1923 stopped
In November 2023, Paramount announced that two “Yellowstone” benefits were in preparation. One was entitled “2024”, which later became “The Madison”. The other was entitled “1944” and is the logical successor of “1923”. By VarietyAt the time of the announcement, Chris McCarthy, president and chief executive officer of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, had this to say on this subject:

“In the heels of ‘1883’ and ‘1923’ ” 1923, Our New Planned Spinoffs ”, 1944″ and “ 2024 ”, will take the public in an exciting, new and unexpected journey with the complex and convincing narration which has become a characteristic brand of franchise and helped it transform it into a global cultural phenomenon. “”
For the moment, the details of the plot for “1944” are kept firmly under the Wraps, but that means that we will see the Dutton family during the Second World War. An older Spencer Dutton could, in theory, appear in the show, but nothing has been confirmed at the moment. The executive producer and director of Yellowstone Christina Voros, speaking with Tvinsider In December 2024, offered a small update on the progress of the show. In short, everything is in the hands of Sheridan. As he explained:

“Honestly, I do not know how Taylor chooses to tell the stories he chooses to tell when. I think he has closed a lot of doors on Yellowstone this season. There are obviously characters that we will not see because they were sent. But I think he has left open doors, and there are doors that I cannot say if they are loat.
For the moment, Sheridan is very busy. He also has season 2 of season 2 of “Landman”, among several other non -“Yellowstone” shows. Not only that, but it has recently been revealed that Paramount was trying to make spectacles at a lower cost, which could have an impact on Sheridan programs in the future. It remains to be seen how it has an impact on “1944”, but for fans of the franchise, this show will actually replace season 3 “1923”, whenever it happens.
