Joseph Parker only took two laps to eliminate Martin Bakole, a high -level heavyweight that has arrived in the shortest possible notice to replace Daniel Dubois, at the Anb arena in Riyadh.
Bakole was trying a feat that was surely unprecedented in sport. When Daniel Dubois, the IBF world champion, fell ill only before he was fighting Parker, Bakole decided to replace him.
Kinshasa’s trip to Dr. Congo, Bakole landed in Riyadh in the early hours of Saturday morning to face Parker, another world class heavyweight, later in the interim WBO title of the latter.
Parker rushed with diligence to the giant of 310 lb. But Bakole handcuffed it with a hard line just before the end of the first round.
The two gloves tapped respectfully, then Bakole granted himself a brief moment of celebration. He liked his start.
The fights in gloves borrowed from Dubois, Bakole walked after Parker in the second round.
There were notes of danger from Bakole as he lifted punches on the body, then the head.
Bakole obviously shook the New Zealand cross and came to get him.
But Parker then played on his right. He cut Bakole high on his head. It stole his balance, his legs shivered under him and Bakole overturned.
Bakole used the strings to get up standing, but the referee would not let him continue, excluding him at 2:17 from the second round.
“Martin Bakole, thank you for accepting the challenge of flying so far within a short time and for giving me a good fight,” said Parker later.
“I stayed calm, structured, composed and obtained victory.
“I am in good shape, strong, healthy and sharp. Andy Lee broke it for me, I had to be patient.”
The WBO temporary belt means that it should be the compulsory challenger of its world title, run by unified champion Oleksandr Usyk.
“How can I fight for the world title then?” He said. “If Usyk wants a dance partner. I want to fight for a world title, I want to be again world champion.”
Gallant Padley beaten
Shakur Stevenson beat Josh Padley after three kicks in the ninth round forced the British corner to throw in the towel and remove it in the break.
But taking the light world champion WBC who deeply in the fight is his own triumph for Padley.
Tuesday, the electrician Doncaster was doing his day job. He did not realize that in a few hours, he would have the opportunity to intervene in a short notice to replace the Sick Floyd Schofield and challenge Stevenson to the Anb Arena in Riyadh.
Beating Stevenson is a monumental task for anyone, not to mention a fighter who had never contributed to this type of level before. Stevenson, an elite champion, had already won world titles in three weight categories and is at his peak.
Quick and smooth Southpaw, the American star took the measure of Padley in the first round. He quickly closed the distance between them in the second and cut the courageous challenger.
Padley took the tubes and strictly swung when he could. But there was a speed gulf as well as skills.
Stevenson chose more fire in the third round. He closed it with a two hard one and Padley had to mix his feet under him while he was trying to keep his cool.
A cruel left on the left whipped the body in the reserves of the fifth round Papted Padley.
Stevenson started putting him on him in the sixth round, crunching Padley with hooks and launch in a long advance on the right. He put himself further. But Padley lifted him in a melee and hooks to handcuff on the champion, deficient.
So often, when it seemed that the challenger was about to collapse, he would find a way to retaliate or hang on to it.
But finally Stevenson pierced. Even if Padley hit the frustration canvas when he fell, the bodies hit him on the canvas three times.
His corner took him out, beaten but a fighter who should also be proud.
