Jermell Charlo will resume his career at the end of the summer. The former unquestioned junior weight champion Charlo (35-2-1, 19 KB) has taken a two-year vacation since he obtained a big salary in a fight against Canelo Alvarez on September 30, 2023.
Title shooting?
We think Jermell will target one of the champions at 154, with WBC and WBO field Sébastien Fundora Being the likely champion he is fighting.
PUGMIRE LAUNCTION REPORTS This promoter Tom Brown says that Charlo, 34, will return “end summer”.
This would obviously look bad if Charlo obtained a right -up shooting after a two -year layout and a unanimous loss of decision at 12 laps in Canelo. He should at least fight the best competitor in the ranking, such as Serhii Bohachuk or Xander Zayas.
The IBF champion, Bakhram Murtazaliev, will not be the choice because Charlo has never shown any interest in fighting it when he was compulsory. He certainly will not want to fight it after a two -year layout and has to face the rehydration rule of 10 pounds from the IBF.
It is doubtful that Jermell is able to go through the training camp without suffering a kind of injury. We all remember how Tim Tszyu had problems trying to draw a title against Charlo when he held the WBO title and underwent a hand injury. Jermell then went to 154 to challenge Canelo for his belts, letting Tszyu have lost time trying to fight against him.
Riyadh dreams?
It would be interesting to know why Jermell Charlo decided to regain his career suddenly. Does he hope that there will be an interest in him for Riyadic seasonal cards?
When we hear about Ryan Garcia who earns 20 million dollars in the Channel against Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero in an update on the card of May 2, it could have planted ideas in Jermell’s head.
Ryan is young, popular with a massive audience on social networks, easy to understand and reliable. Charlo’s latest performance was terrible against Canelo, and he didn’t look good in his fights against Brian Castano and Tony Harrison.
Fans who were not there when Jermell fought these guys will not care about his return. But if you have followed his career from the start, you will know that he is overrated and will not beat any of the best fighters at 154.
