Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu says he has no “confidence” at the head of the national security agency.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will vote to the government to reject the director of the Half Bet internal security service.
On Sunday, in a statement from the Netanyahu office, the Prime Minister said that he had a “continuous mistrust” for Ronen Bar and that confidence in the head of the internal security service is crucial at a time of war.
According to Israeli media, the vote to reject the chief of Shin Bet is expected to take place on Wednesday during a special meeting of the cabinet.
But in a statement, Bar said that even if he was taking “agency’s part of the agency” so as not to prevent the attack on October 7, 2023, which sparked the war in Gaza, it was “clear that the intention behind my dismissal is not linked”.
“The expectation of the Prime Minister of personal loyalty who contradicts the public interest is a completely inappropriate expectation,” said Bar.
The leader of the Israeli Democratic Party Yair Golan also criticized the decision to reject the bar and wrote on X that “Netanyahu declared war on the State of Israel”.
“The dismissal of the chief of Shin Pari is a desperate attempt by a criminal accused to get rid of someone who is faithful to Israel and who investigates Netanyahu and his nearby circle for serious and dark offenses and who are not willing to whiten them,” said Golan.
“The dismissal of the chief of the shin will not pass as if nothing happened. There will be enormous resistance, we will fight with force and will not allow Netanyahu to transform the state of Israel into a dictatorship of a corrupt man, “he added.
The decision to reject the bar comes after an angry dispute between the two, which focused on who is responsible for October 7.
The Shin Bet, which is responsible for monitoring the Palestinian armed groups, recently published a report accepting the responsibility of its failures in the attack, which is considered in Israel as the worst security failure in the country which led to its only deadly day, with 1,200 people killed and 251 caught captivity, according to an Israeli Tally.
However, the organization has also criticized Netanyahu for failed government policies which helped to create the moment that led to the attack.
However, the Prime Minister also resisted calls for an official investigation by the State Commission on the events of October 7.
In addition, the decision to reject the bar follows several senior Israeli officials who were in charge during the attack on Hamas being forced to resign, in particular the former Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant and the Lieutenant-General of the Army Herzi Halevi.
Tensions boiled this weekend when the predecessor of Bar, Nadav Argaman, said that he would disclose sensitive information about Netanyahu if the Prime Minister had broken the law.
Netanyahu accused Argaman of blackmail and filed a complaint for the police.
