Newcastle manager Eddie Howe congratulated his team for not having been distracted by the next Ligue Cup final in Wembley to win a Premier League victory in West Ham.
Captain Bruno Guimaraes scored the only goal of the match to raise the Magpies to sixth place in the table.
On Sunday, they face Liverpool to Wembley so that the Chacen raises a Dmestic trophy for the first time in 70 years.
Howe said: “It was one of our best victories of the season, not in terms of performance but desire and heart.
“We have shown all the great ingredients you need to be a successful team. You have to win when the game is tight and find a way to cross the line. We defended very well after the first three minutes, which was a little frightening. We deserved victory.
“This is why for me it was such a good victory, it would be easy for players to be distracted but they were present. We will fully focus on Liverpool now. We will take into account everything.
“I felt that we needed a victory to enter the final with a real boost and an uprising.”
The defeat of West Ham leaves them in 16th place, with the Boss Graham Potter unhappy with the only goal of the match.
He said, “I thought it was a committed performance from us.
“The match was reflected and made a flow. We are disappointed with the goal, it looks like two hands on the back of our central defender.
“We had a few moments, not enough to win it, but we were sufficiently committed to obtaining enough from the game.
“We have tried to resolve the foundations and give us some stability. As I said, the effort, the application and the desire to retreat and suffer for each other were there.
“At the back of two victories, it is not built in a day. We have to move step by step. You must continue to move.
