An Ohio teacher was put on administrative leave after a student’s family reported that the educator came to his home to demand missing duties.
The teacher appeared on Wednesday at the student’s home and asked the child to seize the missing duties, the family said.
During the interaction between the teacher and the student, a parent arrived at home and confronted the teacher on the porch.
The teacher of the Hull Prairie Intermediary School (HPI) will remain on leave pending the outcome of an investigation, officials of Perrysburg schools said in a statement.

The parent subsequently sent an email to school administrators to inform them of the incident, and the teacher was put on leave the next day. Police also opened an investigation into the incident.
“Although we are limited in what we can share because of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the current police investigation, rest assured that we take concerns about student security with the most seriousness,” said the superintendent of Perrysburg schools, Thomas Hosler, in a message to families.
“The well-being of our students remains our highest priority and we fully cooperate with the authorities of the application of laws,” continued Hosler.

The school district is “determined to maintain a safe, respectful and united environment for all students,” said Hosler, adding that staff members should “maintain professional borders” and “exercise solid judgment” in accordance with their legal, professional and ethical responsibilities.
Hosler said the district would take measures when the actions of a staff member do not align with these standards.
The district follows all the required procedures described in the revised Ohio code and the applicable collective agreement, he noted.

“These steps are essential to ensure that the regular procedure is followed, protect the integrity of the survey and preserve the ability of the district to take appropriate measures in response to the incident,” said Hosler.
He continued: “We are grateful to the family who immediately pointed out this concern, allowing us to act quickly. We encourage all students and families to express themselves whenever they have concerns about the driving of staff so that we can approach them immediately. We appreciate your patience and understanding as this investigation will continue. We will provide updates as we can, within the law.”
