Our program of study at home and how we structure our daysMath- 20-30 minutesGrammar -20-30 minutesWriting – 20-30 minutesReading – 20 minutesScience + social studies / geography – approximately 2x per week eachNoon:Afternoon:

Share more on the program of Home Studies of P and how we structure our days. To find out more about the reasons why we decided to school at home, see this post.

Hi friends! How are you doing? I hope you have a wonderful morning. I have some customer calls today, pleasure at home, and we are going to hike in the afternoon. What are you doing?

For today’s post, I wanted to discuss more how we structure our days now that we are in weekly home teaching. It should be mentioned here that every day is different and these are only boxes that we check every day. Homeschool’s beauty is that it is flexible. It takes much less time than traditional school, and you have the freedom to take a break, to change things or to move things, according to what is happening.

It should also be mentioned here that I am not an expert and that I have a minimum experience in this area. I am the new beginners and I understand it seriously as you go. I am so grateful that there are experts at home and friends who have offered help and advice; I will take all the advice I can get!

I am also very grateful to Brittany of a healthy slice of life Who jumped, jumped on the phone with me when I sent him a super long voice message, told me about the ledge and helped me find a match plan. Consult your blog for information, recipes, travel and lifestyle at home – it is incredible.

Even if I am still understanding this, I wanted to share this post for my friends who envisage a school at home, but who are super intimidated, just like me. I thought I should be a * teacher * to be good in this area. You do not need to have training in teaching. You just have to find the right range of programs (and know that you can change at any time), have a little patience and flexibility, and continue to show love and patience to your child. <3

Our program of study at home and how we structure our days

For the most part, here is how the day is going:

We wake up and take Liv to school. We come home, p has breakfast, I give her a little cold time where she can play with toys, puzzles, construction things, etc. (This is where I will catch up with some emails or make work fires) and we start * at school * at 9 years old. I sit with her and have my breakfast while we are working together.

Almost the whole program we use is plug and play, which means you open the book, read the lesson, answer questions and move on. (Almost all below was recommended by Brittany)

Math- 20-30 minutes

We use Nicole the mathematical lady and Saxon mathematics. We used to use Saxon mathematics at the girls’ school (they had gone to mathematics in concentration) and I knew I wanted to return to Saxon. Nicole La Math Lady teaches each lesson (about a 10-minute video with a cheeky cerebral break, which P is), then you have practice questions and 1-2 calculation sheets to be completed. You enter the children’s answers to the computer and it follows their notes. Each lesson takes us about 2 days to finish.

Grammar -20-30 minutes

For grammar, we use MasterBooks, which is a denominational program. It includes the study of images, memorization, punctuation, spelling, vocabulary, observation, poems, psalms, letters and practical application by creative writing. We just started but I have the impression that she has already learned a lot from this manual. She learned cursive this year, so she is working to answer questions in cursive.

Writing – 20-30 minutes

To write, we do the Fables, myths and fairy tales Iew lessons writing. It focuses on their structure and style method. Currently, she is working on reading fables, creating key contours and narration (being able to tell the story using her notes).

Reading – 20 minutes

I just want to read for the moment, so we read something Super light and fun together. This book held the test of time and she loves it. We often realize at some point by reading on Fudge and its antics.

Science + social studies / geography – approximately 2x per week each

I always try to find a plan for that, but not so worried about it because we are close to summer. For the moment, she is working to memorize states, capitals and the possibility of locating them on a map.

For science, we carry out a project every week. The first week, we dissected meatballs, equaled the bones on the bone sorting cards and talked about what we found. Week 2, she built a drop of egg that we could go from balcony to courtyard while keeping the egg intact. We talked about speed, severity, momentum, action and reaction. This week, she works on Build a Russian mountain.

Since we simply plan home education until the 5th year, I will contact the Liv school to see what are the expectations for the increase in 5th year students for science and social studies / geography so that I can make sure to cover the bases.

Noon:

We take Maisey to walk and have lunch together, catch up with a few tasks and find a plan for the afternoon.

Afternoon:

When we made this decision, I told P that I loved spending time with her but could not be her cruise director all day. In the afternoon before taking Liv, I will have coaching calls, content creation, edition, podcast interviews, everything I need to do in terms of work for a few hours. I also moved my work schedule, so I work more on weekends or when the pilot is at the airline training. (We started all this when he left, so I was a solo parent and understood all this along the way.) On Saturday is a day of work blitz now, and most of Sunday. Besides the basketball match of P, I will write / work / publish almost all day until dinner.

In the afternoon, she will play with toys, work on something she loves (music, hook, hoops, etc.), and if I am caught up in work, I will take her to a place of indoor play, to shop, and sometimes I will give her screen time. Since she has had basketball at night and we continue with Liv to Dance lessons, she generally does not have screen time in the evening.

The days are laughing. Sometimes, I will have an appointment in the morning, or I teach a bar lesson, so we do school in the afternoon, and we also explore some of the activities of Tucson Homeschool. There are so many great here: parkour, gymnastics, art, cooperatives, horse lessons, music – I am delighted to check them!

This is how it happens for the moment! I am sure that it will change over time and my plan is to have it caught up in mathematics (it ends the third year book now and I will hope to get the 4th year and most of the 5th year next year when it will be in 4th year). The other books are 4th year books, so we are just going to go to the 5th when she finishes them.

Homeschool allows you to meet the child where they are. If they progress quickly in a subject, you can progress with them or take more time on certain subjects if they need it.

If you have ideas for fun scientific projects or social studies and geography resources, I would appreciate it so much! In addition, if there are questions I can answer in the next articles, please LMK!

xoxo
