Now that Lalan Ritchson has given fans of Jack Reacher’s novels from Lee Child, a precise version of the former military member, the actor’s career really took off. Playing the imposing protagonist of Prime Video “Reacher” catapulted Ritchson at a level of renown which he had apparently pursued for some time. The man was 40 years old when he faced the first season of the popular series in 2022, and although he worked in a fairly coherent way before that, “Reacher” was a success that Ritchson suddenly found himself on the way to become a familiar name.

Once his streaming series has taken off, the 6 -foot 3 -inch star brought her Jack Reach producer muscle to the role of the chief of the Aimes agency in “Fast X”, and will soon appear opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in a Christmas comedy. Meanwhile, season 3 of “Reacher” broke streaming records for video premium, cementing the status of Ritchson as a star of good faith.
It took a lot to get to this point. Ritchson made his television debut in 2006 in an episode of season 5 of “Smallville”, in which he played Arthur Curry, alias Aquaman. It was the leading television role speaking of the actor after his appearance on “American Idol” (an embarrassing moment in the past of Ritchson that the “Rewier” crew later used as a farce), and seemed to be about to launch Ritchson’s career when he began. Indeed, shortly after his episode became a safe blow, the producers of “Smallville” began to develop a spin-off “Aquaman” which was in fact supposed to play Ritchson.

Unfortunately, despite having played curry in the WB series, the actor was replaced before the pilot was shot. (He resumed the role three times more on the show’s race.) His replacement in the television pilot “Aquaman” turned out to be less a blow than it was initially, because the series was never picked up. However, to date, the always graceful ritchson does not seem too embarrassed by this particular career.
Alan Ritchson was almost thrown into the Aquaman series
Arthur Curry by Alan Ritchson appeared for the first time in the episode of the fifth season of “Smallville” named “Aqua”. The episode saw Curry visit the holder city to put an end to the development by Luthorcorp of a project of underwater weapons and collected impressive notes, which prompted showrunners to start developing a series centered on curry. As producer Al Gough said Variety At the time, the new show was designed to be “an anchored version of Aquaman’s mythology”, with a version of Curry who “knows what he wants to do with his life, which is to protect the oceans”.

Although it was linked to “Smallville”, the Aquaman show, originally entitled “Mercy Reef” after the location where Curry was abandoned as a baby, was not technically a spin-off, as evidenced by the fact that Ritchson was not sunk. As the actor explained once during an interview on the “Inside you” Podcast, the “Aquaman” driver was under development in 2006 – an era when UPN and WB merge to become the CW. Obviously, the president of UPN was not too sure to have the relatively inexperienced rithson to face this new series, and wanted to find a new main actor. “He looks at this list of shows, this slate and goes:” Who devil is this guy? “,” Said Ritchson. “It’s the same thing I would do!”

What followed was a prolonged casting process that involved that Ritchson said he would play in the series, before saying later that he would be replaced. After being informed then that he was in fact hired, Ritchson finally learned that Justin Hartley, who would later gain notoriety for playing in “This is us”, had been thrown. As Ritchson remembers, “a week later, they were like” actually … Justin Hartley has just detached himself from “passions” and he is available and we are going to go with Justin Hartley. “And I said to myself: ‘I don’t know who it’s, but great.’ “As Gough said to the variety at the time:
“”[Ritchson] I did a wonderful job in the series, but it will be a different version of the legend “Aquaman”. [The pilot] will be different from what you have seen on “Smallville”. It was our test version outside the city. “”
After having such an experience, you could expect Ritchson to be a little upset. But it seems that the actor took everything in stride.
Alan Ritchson learned a precious lesson in his Aquaman experience
When Alan Ritchson was informed for the first time that he was going to play in a series “Aquaman”, he was delighted. As he said to Michael Rosenbaum during the interview “Inside of You” “, I was sitting there, going,” I can’t believe it was so easy. I’ve been here for three weeks. I have my own show?! “” According to the actor, he was congratulated for his new series and I received a call from someone in the studio who announced himself as “the guy who assures you to keep your head on the ground, so you call me a day or night.” As Ritchson saw, he was prepared for “The Bigger Show on television”.

Alas, this was not the case; After this tedious and trained casting process, the actor was finally replaced by Justin Hartley. Fortunately, however, Ritchson managed to remain relatively calm and at high level. “I was not crazy at all, why would I be?” said the actor, who would later have an equally frustrating frustrating casting experience after Amazon did not want to launch him in “Reacher”. The star added: “I learned the best lesson I can early, to keep up with this kind of thing because nothing is guaranteed and nothing owes me. If I had not learned this lesson early, I would have been a ** hole.”
Of course, things finally worked for Ritchson anyway, the actor even remembered his heroic role “Smallville” while working on “Reacher”. In addition, the “Aquaman” driver was not picked up by the CW after the merger of WB and UPN – although a trailer Because the pilot is available online (the one that also includes Helen Hunt and twenty rhames).
