Juventus sold Dean Huijsen to Bournemouth in summer, but, to fill the gap left by the young defender, they brought Lloyd Kelly from Newcastle United for an initial loan agreement in January.
Huijsen prospered in Bournemouth, quickly attracting the best clubs, including Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Kelly had a hard time adapting to life in Italy, faced with criticisms for his performances since he went from Newcastle.
“It’s arsenal for you!” – What ex-Gunner thinks that his former club has a major problem?
Its agreement covered the rest of the 2024-25 season, Juve is committed to making the transfer permanent for 20 million pounds sterling.
The former defender of under 21 of England signed for Newcastle during a free transfer in June after leaving Bournemouth at the end of his contract. However, his stay in St James’ Park was short -lived. The 26 -year -old has only achieved 10 Premier League appearances and had not started a match since November.
Newcastle considered the offer to be too good to refuse, especially since it helped improve their position with the rules of profit and sustainability (PSR).
The official Juventus website wrote at the time of his signature: “Kelly is known for its speed, its ability to build the game from the rear and its tactical reading of the game.
“Thanks to its stature imposing 1.90 m high, it is strong in air duels, both in the defensive phase and in dead ball situations. His dynamism allows him to adapt to different tactical formations, which makes him a precious piece to the Juventus puzzle. Welcome to Juventus, Lloyd! ”
Juventus feels that they should have signed Lloyd Kelly on free transfer
But things did not go as planned. According to TuttomercatowebJuventus has spoiled the situation. Not only do they regret having sold Huijsen, but they also poorly managed Kelly’s transfer, opting for a loan move when they could have signed it for free after leaving Bournemouth last summer.
Instead, they are now faced with the prospect of paying Newcastle more than 25 million euros for the 26 -year -old player.
This award is questioned, given the disappointing impact of Kelly in Serie A. He only played ten championship games for Newcastle before joining Juve and had trouble in his recent 3-0 defeat against Fiorentina.
