The frank observations of a professor based in the United Kingdom have sparked an online discussion on the challenges that Indian students face during the continuation of higher education in Great Britain. Publication on Reddit, the speaker – who is a double British citizen – has shed light on the common difficulties of Indian students, including the obstacles to communication, the lack of engagement in studies and a badge on part -time work.
The speaker noted that the vast majority of Indian students come to the United Kingdom for one year control in order to obtain permanent jobs and possibly settle in the country. However, based on their personal observations, the author noted that many manage to understand that a diploma in the United Kingdom is not enough for employment. “Employers want more,” wrote the speaker, stressing that students need solid communication skills, confidence and critical thinking capacities to stand out on a competitive labor market.
Instead of focusing on skills development, the professor has observed that many Indian students favor part -time jobs to cover subsistence costs, often to the detriment of their courses. “They do not get involved, do not end the courses correctly and do not prioritize money on the development of their skills,” said the post. The speaker has also noted that many students are passive in their learning, reserved in class discussions and hesitate to network beyond their own community – factors that considerably reduce their employability.
The position triggered a widespread discussion, some agreeing that Indian students must focus more on professional growth, while others argue that financial pressures do part -time work a necessity. The author of the post, in response to a question, says that around 90% of students return to India after not being able to get a job.
“Employers already have stereotypes on Indian students, and unfortunately, many current students strengthen them by showing little initiative, bad communication skills and a lack of engagement in their studies,” said the Reddit Post. They warned that students are fully benefiting from their education, develop general skills and establish professional relationships, many will find it difficult to obtain jobs in the United Kingdom and will finally have to go home.
