Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger will miss the last weeks of the regular season after undergoing knee surgery.
The German international faced the prospect of a long suspension after his conduct at the end of the final defeat of Madrid Copa Del Rey against Barcelona on Saturday and the club may have decided to act now, putting him under the knife while he is sidelined, to make sure that he is suitable for the club World Cup which begins in June.
A club declaration is read as follows: “Antonio Rüdiger has undergone surgery today for a tear in the outside meniscus of his left knee. The operation was carried out by Dr Manuel Leyes under the supervision of the Real Madrid medical services. Rüdiger will start his recovery process shortly.”

Rudiger loses its cool by stifling Seville
Rudiger was sent with a few remaining seconds of the 3-2 defeat near Madrid against Barcelona in Seville and did not hide his anger, throwing a bag of ice into the referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea and having to be retained by the staff and the teammates while he was trying to go to the official.
Rudiger apologized on social networks yesterday, admitting that there was “no excuse for my behavior”, but it remains to be seen what the sanction is transmitted with reports suggesting that it could receive a national ban on 12 games.
The actions of the age of 32 also did not break well in his homeland and the sports director of the German football association Rudi Voller published a reprimand breaststroke.
He told the news agency SID: “Toni is a great player, but as a player of the national team, he must also show class in his behavior. He rightly demands respect for himself, but he must extend this same respect to others without exception.
“In this case, he and some teammates were too affected by the extremely lively atmosphere which was inexplicably widespread in the club. It is not possible. Not as a German national team player.
“He must change this and he knows that himself, his public reaction shows him.”
A controversy weekend
Madrid had before the match for the referee of Burgos and the official of Var Pablo Gonzalez Fuertes to replace after the two officials described their disgust for a video on the internal television channel of the club which highlighted the errors made during their career.
The biggest appeal of the Bengoetxea game was in favor of Madrid because, following a Var examination on the pitchid monitor, he reversed his initial decision to grant Barcelona a penalty of 96th minute after Raul Asecio seemed to bring Raphinha to fall.
This meant that normal time ended with the level of play at 2-2, Ferran Torres having equalized after the Kylian Mbappe free kick and the Aurelien Tchouameni gave Madrid a second half after the opening of Pedri for the Barca.
But Kounde’s fierce journey in the 116th minute won the victory for Barcelona while they stayed in the Cape for the triples, and caused anger scenes from the Madrid bench with Rudiger, Jude Bellingham and Lucas Vazquez all rejected while Madrid lost their discipline.
Carlo Ancelotti’s team must now give their attention to the League and try to fill the gap of four points to the table barca.
They welcome Celta Vigo the weekend before a classico that defines the season against a Barcelona team that has now beat them three times this season.
