Lauren Winfield-Hill of Sky Sports Cricket believes that Heather Knight has proven his value for England after losing the captain after a disastrous winter.
After a 16-0 laundering in the ashes, Knight left his role as captain while Nat Sciver-Brunt took care of, head coach Jon Lewis giving way to Charlotte Edwards to take over.
The new era started with the opening of the T20I in its series against the Antilles while England left with a comfortable victory in eight counters.
Despite the refreshing outfit, it was a former Knight skipper (43No) who helped open the way while England was going up 147, associating Sophia Dunkley (81No) as a key duo that shared an uninterrupted 91 -point partnership.
Meanwhile, Sciver-Brunt fell into a two-ball duck.
For Winfield-Hill, it is a moment that will have assured Knight’s doubts on his role in the side, reaffirming that she is always one of the best players that England has to offer.
“I think it will really say its place on this side,” said Winfield-Hill.
“You are no longer a captain but my God, you are still one of the best players in the country.
“There is no one more than you want to get into the fold in this situation, some counters, that Heather Knight to see the game at home.
“In particular in a prosecution, she is so good in a prosecution. She knows the tempo, she knows her strengths, when to press the relaxation.
“It will just be a great reaffirmation for her that she has real value for this side.
“Because, without a doubt, she will have asked for it when the loss of her captain.”
Dunkley: Knight was exceptional with the group
Dunkley was also praised for her former skipper and a hitting partner, insisting that she was “exceptional” with the group throughout the transition of its leadership in the new era.
Indeed, she believes that “nothing has changed” with regard to the leadership that Knight brings to the team.
“Heather was exceptional around the group,” said Dunkley.
“It is a natural leader, everyone respects it, nothing has changed in this regard.
“She beat very well, had an excellent partnership, and great to see her do what she does best.”
Although Dunkley thinks that little too much has changed for Knight, she admits that there is a different feeling under the new coach Edwards who told her to keep things “simple” and “calm”.
“Edwards is calm and clear in what she wants to do, we had a good week in this game and it’s great to start with a victory,” added Dunkley.
“I really wanted to go out and contribute to the team and have an impact on the game and I am happy to have done it tonight.
“She was clear with me on what she wants me to do, play my strength.
“My strength is to strike well and directly and take the game when I want and to be clear in my decision-making, nothing too much there, to remain simple and that’s what I tried to do tonight.”
