The “initial movements” of Mark Carney’s government suggest a “new atmosphere” for Canadian-Israeli relations, the Israeli ambassador in Canada Iddo Moed said in an interview with Global News.
“The initial movements of the current government, whether threatening Israel or official summons to the ministry, are different movements. We have not heard that in the past, so in this sense, this is what I am talking about, this new atmosphere,” Moed told Global News when he noticed a difference in tone between the current government and that of the former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Canada summoned the Israel’s ambassador after Israeli defense forces fired a diplomatic delegation in the West Bank which included four Canadians.
The FDI says that no one was injured in the incident.
“Raised to know that our team is safe,” said Foreign Minister Anita Anand A message on X.
“I asked my officials to summon the ambassador of Israel to express the serious concerns of Canada. We expect a complete investigation and responsibility. ”

Prime Minister Mark Carney said the incident was “completely unacceptable”.
Although Moed did not disclose the details of his meeting, he said that he was not clear what was “unacceptable” for Carney.
“I don’t know what was unacceptable. The fact that diplomats approached Israeli soldiers in a combat zone, what they know is active? Was it unacceptable? The fact that they were walking outside the agreed and coordinated route unacceptable for me, which is unacceptable too. ”
Carney told journalists on Wednesday that the incident was one of the “many things” in the region that were unacceptable.
Moed told Global News that no one was in danger.
“We do not know what happened exactly, but the soldiers were not aware of the presence of this group and they saw a group of people approaching them. And so they fired a few shots in the air, warn of blows. At no time, anyone who was in danger.”
He added that the FDI had expressed its “regrets” on the incident.
Jean-Noël Barrot, French Minister of Foreign Affairs, said in an article on social networks that the situation was unacceptable and that the Israeli ambassador to France was summoned to explain it.
Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani said that he also appealed to the Israeli ambassador to Italy to explain the incident.
In a joint statement published earlier this week, Carney, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron threatened to impose “targeted sanctions” on Israel in response to his military offensive renewal in Gaza and the “completely inadequate” quantity of authorized food aid at the enclave.
The letter also indicated the opposition of leaders to “any attempt” to expand the Israeli regulation in the West Bank.
On Wednesday, Carney would not say what “concrete action” Canada would take if Israel ignores the requests of the leaders, but suggested that any measure would be part of a joint response with France and Great Britain.
