Jofra Archer should go back to first class cricket for the first time in four years on Sunday – despite the initial confusion to find out if he would play for Sussex in Durham.
The quick launcher in England was not appointed to a team of 12 players for the county championship match, which raised concerns that he had undergone another injury backdrop in a career unleashed by them.
But the Board of Directors of England and Wales Clarified Archer in the Sussex travel group for the match in Chester-le-Street.
If Archer, who has only played white ball cricket for England since 2021 after the injuries of the elbow and back, goes through the unscathed match, he could be in the mixture to play during the second test against India at Edgbaston from July 2 or the third in Lord’s from July 10.
The 30-year-old was to make a comeback for the red bullets for the Lions of England against India and earlier this month only for a sustained thumb injury for the Royals of Rajasthan in IPL to scupper this, as well as his participation in the ODIs against the West Indies.
Archer made 42 counters in 13 tests to an average of 31.04 since he made his debut against Australia in 2019 and Captain of England Ben Stokes said earlier this week that the bowling player was impatient to return to the longest format of international cricket.
