The television submarine Jamie Carragher was again criticized, this time from the former tennis star Boris Becker.
Becker says that the former Liverpool defender “is not at all informed” after his disagreement with his point of view on the next series of 16 of the Champions League between Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen.
Sport Bild reports that Carragher said: “Bayern has not yet convinced me. Now they play against Leverkusen, who recently dominated Bayern in the Bundesliga. It is equality 50-50. In the end, I predict the Leverkusen [to advance]. “”
Bayern appointed Vincent Kompany as a boss at the start of the season, despite his relegation with Burnley last year. The Belgian impressed the Allianz Arena, leading Bayern to the top of the Bundesliga and they have an eight -point lead compared to the champions of last year Leverkusen.
Carragher questions Kompany
But Carragher believes that the defeat against the Xabi Alonso team in the Champions League would lead to question points to find out if he was the right man to lead the club.
He added: “If Kompany does not win, there will be a lot of question points on his appointment, because the League is expected and the Champions League is the icing on the cake of a season. They must at least reach the semi-finals. »»
The Bayern Becker fan, who was a former world number one after winning Wimbledon at the age of 17, believes that Carragher’s opinions are wide from the brand.
There was no question concerning the appointment of Kompany!
Actually @FcBayern I just said the most important domestic title title this year and is satisfied with the work of Vincent Kompany!
Jamie is not at all informed at all … @ Carra23 https://t.co/p84l91vkyb– Boris Becker (@theborisbecker) February 26, 2025
Writing on X, the German said: “There was no question concerning the appointment of Kompany!
“In fact, FC Bayern has just said the most important trophy for the domestic title this year and is satisfied with the work of Vincent Kompany!
“Jamie is not well informed at all.”
Afcon line
Carragher was criticized during the weekend for suggesting that the African Cup of Nations was not a major tournament when he discussed the chances of Mohamed Salah to win the Ballon d’Or.
He told Sky Sports: “I think the problem is the fact that he is with Egypt, and he probably does not play in major tournaments as such.”
Sky’s compatriot, Micah Richards, challenged him at the time and that the former defender of Manchester United, Rio Ferdinand, later said that Carragher’s point of view was a “ignorant reflection process” .
Carragher retaliated, labeling Ferdinand a “clown” before trying to clarify what he meant.
Salah / Afcon / Balon d’Or!
The point that I was trying to assert yesterday is that Mo Salah is disadvantaged to play for Egypt in terms of winning the Balon d’Or.
If Salah had an average season at LFC but won the Afcon and was MVP, I don’t think he would win the Balon d’Or.– Jamie Carragher (@ carra23) February 24, 2025
He wrote on X: “The point that I was trying to assert yesterday is that Mo Salah is disadvantaged to play for Egypt in terms of winning the Ballon d’Or. If Salah had an average season at LFC but won the Afcon and was MVP, I don’t think he would win the Ballon d’Or.
“Because I don’t think Afcon has the weight of other tournaments. But if Mbappe had an average season in Real Madrid but won the World Cup / euros, he would always have an excellent opportunity. It is not disrespectful if I think the WC / euros / CP are better tournaments, it’s just my opinion when I look at them. “”
He admitted that his wording could have been better, adding: “To say that it was not a major competition was awkward, but I think most of the people who were watching could understand the point that I was trying to do.”
