A Furious Donald Trump faced Volodymyr Zelensky, the American president saying to his Ukrainian counterpart to conclude an agreement with Russia “where we came out”.
The pair was stopped several times during a heated exchange in a rarely seen in the White House.
At one point, an angry Trump said Zelensky was not grateful enough for American military and political support, and that he “played with the Second World War”.
Zelensky said that there should be “no compromise” with Russian President Vladimir Putin – but Trump said kyiv should make concessions to conclude a peace agreement with Russia.
The meeting was intended for a prelude to both signing a mineral agreement, which did not continue.
In what seemed to be a public resident of the Ukrainian president by Trump and the American vice-president JD Vance, the conversation began with Vance telling in Zelensky that war should end with diplomacy.
Zelensky asked “what kind of diplomacy?” Before being accused by the vice-president of being disrespectful.
The discussion then degenerated quickly, while Trump and Vance accused the president of Ukraine of being ungrateful for three years of American support during the war with Russia, Trump saying that he was unable to say in the United States how it should feel.
Shortly after the meeting and well in advance on the pre-plane calendar, Zelensky was seen when leaving the White House in his official vehicle.
Meanwhile, Trump went to Truth Social, the social media platform he has, To say “Zelensky missed in the United States in his oval cherish”.
“We had a very significant meeting in the White House today,” he wrote. “We have learned a lot that could never be understood without conversation under such fire and pressure.
“This is incredible what comes out by emotion, and I determined that President Zelensky is not ready for peace if America is involved, because he thinks that our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations. I do not want more, I want peace.”
He added that Zelensky “can come back when he is ready for peace”.
The two leaders were to sign an agreement giving Washington access to Ukrainian oil, gas and rare minerals, which was later confirmed that it did not occur.
