Texas state legislator has introduced legislation that would modify the prohibition of the State on transitional procedures between sexes or the treatment of minors to also apply to adults of the solo star state.
The HB 3399 filed by the Brent Money representative, a republican, would change the language in the current law prohibiting the transitional procedures between the sexes or the treatment of children by replacing the word “child” by “person”.
Money’s proposal to prohibit medical procedures “in order to make the transition from a person’s biological sex” or “affirming the perception of the person of the person” if the perception does not in accordance with the biological sex of the person.

Surgergia and drugs blocking puberty would be prohibited for all Texans as part of the bill, with exceptions for a doctor prescribing puberty blocking drugs to a child with parental consent to normalize puberty and surgery on a person born with a “verifiable genetic disorder”.
People who have already started drugs blocking puberty should be weaned drugs in a “medically appropriate” manner which “minimizes the risk of complications”.
Texas has around 93,000 transgender adults, which makes it the most with the third, behind California and Florida, according to the Williams Institute of the School of Law of the UCLA. About 30,000 Texans aged 13 to 18 are transgender, which is also the state with the third, behind California and New York.

The Governor of Texas Greg Abbott, a republican, signed a bill in 2023 prohibiting the transition from the sexes for young transgender people after the approval of the state legislature.
The law was challenged before the Supreme Court of Texas, the trial which sought to block the law arguing that the prohibition has devastating consequences for transgender adolescents who are not able to obtain a treatment recommended by their doctors and their parents, according to Fox 7.

But the court confirmed the ban last summer in an 8-1 decision. A single judge is dissident, claiming that the Supreme Court of the State allowed the State to “legislate fundamental parental rights”.
Texas is one of at least 25 states with restricting laws or prohibit gender transition treatment for transgender minors.
