Eddie Hearn plans a bad night for Hamzah Sheeraz when he faces Edgar Berlanga during his beginnings in Super Middleweight on July 12 on Dazn PPV in New York. Hearn, who used to promote Berlanga (23-1, 18 ko), says that he “wins” the fight against Sheeraz (21-1-1, 17 ko).
Bearlanga size advantage
The enormous size of Berlanga for a great average weight and a power is the reason why Hearn chooses it to defeat Sheeraz. In the defeat of Berlanga against the unified champion of 168 LB Canelo Alvarez on September 14, 2024, he would have rehydrated to 193 pounds. He looked massive inside the ring against Alvarez like a Crossweight. In Edgar’s previous fight against Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz, he looked even greater.
Sheeraz looked bad in his last fight, given a controversial draw of 12 laps against the average WBC weight champion Carlos Adames, on February 22 in Riyadh. Many boxing fans thought he deserved to lose.
Hamzah also seemed vulnerable in his fight with Austin Williams last year on June 1 in Riyadh. He won the fight by an 11th round ko, but was staggered early by Austin. Surprisingly, Turki Alashikh did not give up Sheeraz and put it in the main event against Berlanga on the July 12 map in New York.
If Sheeraz loses this fight, it will be more and more difficult for Turki to continue to include it in his career than on the preliminaries. This is where he should fight because he never beat anyone. I do not consider Austin Williams as a good average weight.
Doubts for Sheeraz
“It’s a good fight for Edgar. I think it’s a bad fight for Hamazah Sheeraz that goes to Super Middleweight for the first time. Edgar is a big medium super weight and he can really hit, and he will win this fight,” said promoter Eddie Hearn to Social boxingGiving his opinion on Hamzah Sheeraz which went from 160 to 168 to fight Edgar Berlanga during his first competition in the division on July 12 in New York.
“But look, Hamzah rolls the dice. Shakur against Zepeda, Morrell, Puelo against Matias is also a very good fight. Another good night,” said Hearn.
