Despite a certain controversy leading to its exit, Assassin’s Creed Shadows managed to reach the sales charts in March in the United States, according to the Société de monitoring de l’Industrie Circana. It was one of the many outings this month to arrive in the charts, the shadows also becoming the second best-selling game of the year. However, sales in general are still as much in red as last month, sales of equipment being down 25% as in February.

“The material spending of the March video games fell 25% compared to a year ago at $ 286 million. This is the total lowest material spending in March since 2019 (279 million dollars),” said Mat Piscatella, Executive Producer of Circana for Gaming Reports. “Digital only SKUS represented 75% of Xbox series and 50% of PlayStation 5 material units sold by the start of the year.”
As for February 2025, sales of equipment in March 2025 follow the drop of -32% of March 2024. It is worth noting that sales of equipment for the period of 2023 increased by a significant percentage (68% in February 2023, 10% in March 2023). The drop in the equipment of March 2024 could be corrective after the point of 2023, but the continuous decline of 2025 seems to be more indicative of the way in which the generation of current console is aging.

Despite the revolutionary success of several March titles, overall sales continue to drop. Piscatella noted: “The only segments showing growth compared to a year ago were a non -mobile subscription (+ 11%) and downloads of digital premiums on the console (+ 12%). Mobile content expenses over the month finished 6% behind March 2024 (mobile source: sensor tower). ”

A large total of seven new games have reached the Mars list, the largest number of 2025. These games represent a relatively wide range of genres, action-adventure titles like Assassin’s Creed Shadows and the last title of Hazelight, Split Fiction; To sports titles like WWE 2K25 and MLB: The Show 25. Bleach: Rebirth of Souls is a title of combat game, while the remaster of the first two Suikoden games reached 18th place.
A game particularly worthy of this list is Xenoblade Chronicles X, whose remaster was published in March as a final edition. The game was initially launched on the unpopular Wii U, so the remaster reaches a much wider audience. Nintendo does not report digital sales in Circana, so its inclusion on sales graphs is based solely on physical sales. Given this fact, it is impressive that a remaster of a ten -year action RPG is so high on the list, and could have placed even more if digital sales were taken into account.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Will it be enough for Ubisoft?
The last Assassin’s Creed game, Shadows, was not the subject of a little speech before its launch. One of the biggest discussion points was how the game sales would affect Ubisoft. The company admitted that its title of 2024 Star Wars: Outlaws had sales “softer than expected”, and the company dismissed 185 people earlier this year. He also indicated that he explored “strategic options” with regard to the future of the company.
All this to say that Ubisoft will keep an eye on Shadows sales. He recently transformed a new basic division of his game company which focuses on Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six from Tom Clancy. Tencent invested $ 1.25 billion in this division last month. Shadows that sold particularly well could not only help the financial situation of Ubisoft, but could also demonstrate the long -term stay of the franchise. But it remains to be seen if sales will really meet Ubisoft expectations.

As indicated above, Assassin’s Creed Shadows climbed in 2nd place on the list of the year of the start of the year.
