In retrospect, it is remarkable that the golden age of Star Trek did not have more injuries behind the scenes. In addition to the potential for waterfalls to make a catastrophically wrong, these actors had frequently simulated that their ship or station was attacked by leaning in various directions while the camera was violently shaken. However, New deep space Star Nana Visitor has already suffered an injury so bad that it was sent to the hospital, and her treatment was delayed because her Bajoran makeup made the medical staff believe that she had a broken nose.
Nana’s visitor heads for the hospital

The story of Nana Visitor’s strange journey to the hospital begins with “Dramatis Personae”, one of the episodes of season 1 stranger of New deep space. She slipped, but it was not a beginner. Instead, she fell while walking on damp stairs, injuring herself. At the beginning, the visitor imitated his hard character like the Nails and insisted so that she could film all her scenes, which pushed the executive producer Rick Berman to insist that she goes to the hospital.
Berman is one of the most notorious figures in the story of Star Trek, who has been accused of being a “homophobic who rages” by Tos and the writer Tng David Gerrold and to be “very misogynistic” DS9 Terry Farrell star. The comments of the latter led to a continuous perception of Berman as a person who deduced the women’s stars who worked for him. Credit where credit is due, however: as soon as Nana Visitor tried to film her scenes after her injury, it was Berman who insisted that she went immediately to the hospital.
The actor respected, and she went directly In the hospital, which means that she did not take the time to remove her Bajoran makeup before leaving the whole. You may not think it’s a big problem … After all, the Bajorans look almost entirely human. Thus, Nana’s visitor swinging in the hospital with her make -up always lit was few likely to panic as many people as, let’s say, later the Costar Michael Dorn leaving the tray while carrying his complete makeup of Klingon.

However, when Nana’s visitor arrived at the hospital, she encountered a problem. Namely, that doctors did not immediately assisted his injured back. It was because they supposed that she had come to the hospital because she had a broken nose. Ironically, it was because of the main physical characteristic differentiating humans bajorans in Star Trek: a kind of nose aspect which, retrospectively, could very easily be confused for a broken nose.
Fortunately, everything is fine which ends well with this story of identity of erroneous injuries: Nana’s visitor was finally able to bring the hospital staff to treat their backs once they realized that she did not had no broken nose. And she was able to continue to shoot her scenes for “Dramatis Personae”, an episode that impressed the future showrunner i will go Steven Behr because of the daring number of risks he took over in the first season of the show. When everything is said and done, this incident leaves us a question that can never be answered: does Starfleet have its own version of the OSHA to help protect the workplaces of the 24th century?
