Moon accused of having appointed the former legislator to the non -profit association in exchange for the hiring of his then son -in -law.
The former president of South Korea, Moon Jae-in, was charged for corruption, the prosecutors said.
Moon, who directed South Korea from 2017 to 2022, under the banner of the Democratic Party of Center-Gauche, would have appointed a former legislator of a non-profit agency financed by the government in exchange for its employee of his son-in-law, announced Thursday in a declaration of the airline in Thailand.
Prosecutors allege that Moon appointed Lee Sang-Jik to lead the agency of SMEs and startups in exchange for his ex-gender, nicknamed SEO, appointed executive director of Thai Eastar Jet, who was controlled by Lee at the time.
They allege that around 223 million wons ($ 151,959) in salary and other advantages provided at SEO constituted a bridge pot on the moon.
The Democratic Party condemned the indictment as a political motivation and an abuse of power of prosecution.
“So, was the salary paid to son-in-law for the president?” Is this the best logic they might find after leaving the case for four long years? ” Spokesperson Park Kyung-Mee said in a statement.
Moon’s indictment adds it to a long list of former South Korean presidents who found themselves in difficulty with the law.
The successor of Moon, the former president of former president Yoon Suk-Yeol, is currently judged on accusations of insurrection against his short-term declaration of martial law last year.
Four other former leaders of South Korea, including the immediate predecessors of Moon, Park Geun-Hye and Lee Myung-Bak, received prison terms.
Moon’s political mentor, former President Roh Moo-Hyun, committed suicide in 2009 when he was under investigation for Bribery.
During his mandate, Moon, a former human rights lawyer, pushed to extend social well-being and defended the rapprochement with North Korea.
South Korea is expected to hold a presidential election on June 3 to replace Yoon, whose dismissal was confirmed by the Constitutional Court of Korea at the beginning of the month.
