The company warned that macroeconomic uncertainties, including American tariff policy, have created a volatility of demand which will have an impact on the second half.
“Although reciprocal tariff measures between certain countries are currently suspended, there are increasing concerns that the price can be applied to semiconductor products,” said a SK Hynix manager during a profits call on Thursday. Meanwhile, the demand for consumer electronics such as PCs and smartphones should benefit from the launch of new products that include AI features this year.
In his winning statement, SK Hynix said that his profits from the first quarter had demonstrated the impact of AI on the memory market.
The manufacturer of memory flea is expecting that Big Tech in AI’s expenses will continue, the expansion of the ecosystem is dictated by offers of Open Source models and “Sovereign IA projects” which will stir up memory demand.
“With the decrease in development costs, AI development initiatives have increased, which has led to a sharp increase in demand,” said a business manager.
SK HYNIX cited the open-source R1 reasoning model of Deepseek, which has achieved competitive performance with material resources limited earlier this year, as an example of a catalyst for the development of AI.
The company has benefited from a boom in AI servers as a high -haired bandwidth, or HBM key, a type of dram used in artificial intelligence servers – to customers such as US AI Darling Nvidia. Micron technology And Samsung Electronics are the other space players.
A report According to Counterpoint Research, earlier this month, SK Hynix had captured 70% of the HBM market by share of income in the first quarter.
This HBM domination helped him go beyond Samsung on the Global Dram market for the first time, with a global market share of 36% compared to 34% of Samsung, added the report.
“The announcement that our company ranked first on the DRAM market in the first quarter of 2025 … reflects that our portfolio strategies focused on the very profitable AI memory were well executed,” said a SK Hynix representative.
Business announced plans on Thursday To build a new manufacturing installation in Cheongju, South Korea, which will expand its production of new generation dram, including HBM.
Construction of the FAB should start at the end of April in order to be completed for early mass production in November 2025. The company said its total investment in the new production base would be more than 20 long -term WONS.
