The prices make all kinds of goods and services more expensive. Kaliannan explains what is for the food industry.

Prices hit a wide range of industries and food is no exception. The founder of Catalina Crunch, Krishna Kaliannan, spoke with Fox Business of the way her business works to provide delicious food without packing in calories.

“We are all at the idea of trying to help people appreciate and have fun eating delicious foods without having a ton and a ton of sugar,” Kaliannan told Fox Business. He said that the iconic toast cereals with Catalina Crunch cinnamon appeared because Cinnamon Toast Crunch was a childhood favorite, but he was “loaded with sugar”.

Catalina Crunch uses a mixture of sweeteners in its products, and the prices have left a bitter taste in the mouth. One of the sweeteners that the company uses is Monk Fruit, which is mainly cultivated in the Chinese province of Guangxi. The fruit, which acts as a natural zero calorie sweetener, has several specific growth requirements, according to Kaliannan.

Chinese imports to the United States fall to the lowest levels from the pandemic in the midst of Trump prices

“Moine fruits are an interesting ingredient because it is cultivated in southern China. It requires a warm, humid and subtropical environment, generally at high altitude and for long periods,” Kaliannan told Fox Business. He explained that there is really no appropriate zone in the United States to grow monk fruit, which means that severe taxes on China will increase the costs of Catalina Crunch.

President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping hit other countries with massive rates. The United States began to impose a tariff of 145% on Chinese imports, while Beijing put a 125% rate on American imports.

On May 12, the two countries agreed to suspend the commercial dispute and reduce prices for at least 90 days, According to Reuters. This would mean that the United States would write its prices on Chinese products at 30% and China reducing its tariffs on American products to 10%. However, we don’t know how long it will last.

Kaliannan also discussed the uncertainty of the commercial environment as the pricing battles continue. While Catalina Crunch tried to be strategic with her funds in response to the additional costs of prices, Kaliannan admits that they “cannot forever”.

“We cannot buy five years of fruit monk, because it goes bad, but we can buy, for example, a year. He also added that the objective would be to keep the” same taste “without changing the nutritional value of the product.

When it comes to knowing whether the consumer will ultimately feel the impact of prices, Kaliannan said it was important to crunch Catalina that his products remain affordable.

Although the company’s products are relatively more expensive than other options, it also uses better quality ingredients in many cases. In the end, Kaliannan said that if the company could not find a way to adapt in a high price environment, such as changing its recipe to maintain level costs, prices could increase.

“We are an agile business, we are a skinny business, we do everything we can to avoid this,” said Kaliannan.
