Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, says that he has “great hope” that striker Mo Salah will win the coveted golden ball this year.
Salah, 32, has scored 28 goals in the Premier League this season and has collected 18 assists in his name while the Reds won the title.
Michael Owen was the last Liverpool player to win the prize in 2001.
Slot said: “It’s quite true because he had very, very good seasons here. It probably stands out in terms of figures and we have won the league.
“He is not the only player to have had an excellent season. If there is never a chance, it’s this season.”
Liverpool will face Crystal Palace on Sunday and will be presented with the League Trophy after the match. Slot says he did not decided if he would play the right back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who leaves the club in summer and was hooked by certain fans during his last appearance of Anfield.
“I have not yet decided to do this,” said Slot. “It should be the day everyone should enjoy. Liverpool fans have been waiting for this moment for 35 years.
“I hope we can add a moment like Tottenham when we won the League. Everyone in the stadium deserves to be there, which includes Trent, who was part of a successful season and a successful year in this club.

“I have a lot of confidence that our fans will deliver again against Tottenham.
“I don’t know yet if we will have this series mentality to show the season after the season. We will see on July 8 when we meet.
“Many won the League, but not much won several seasons in a row.
“Not everyone has this elite mentality. Look at Mohamed Salah, who has been at this type of elite mentality for seven years in a row. He was the most able when we arrived at the pre-season. You need this to become a standard winner.”
