The Interloop Kapas Project certification was conferred by Control Union Sri Lanka after a three-year collaborative effort with 1,000 partner farmers.
The Organic Kapas project spans 5,090 acres and has produced 7,000 bales of organic cotton.
This initiative would not only promote environmental management, but also strengthen the socio-economic fabric by equipping local farmers with the skills and digital tools required to increase agricultural productivity and soil vitality while ensuring access to high value-added markets.
Navid Fazil, CEO of Interloop, explained: “This certification validates our approach to building resilient and transparent supply chains, where our farmers thrive amid changing global standards. »
The Interloop Organic Kapas (ILOK) project began with the aim of improving both farmer welfare and environmental sustainability. It focuses on improving the availability and digital traceability of organic cotton while developing the skills of cotton pickers in optimal harvesting techniques to reduce contamination.
The latest certification follows the project achieving InConversion Organic Cotton (IC1) certification from Control Union Sri Lanka in 2023. This certification ensures that the integrity of the organic material is maintained from its origin on the farm until to the final product by carrying out in-depth analyses. audits at every stage of the supply chain.
Looking ahead, Interloop has set a goal for 2025 of sourcing 70% of its materials from sustainable sources.
The company’s sustainable materials portfolio includes BCI cotton, organic cotton, recycled cotton, recycled polyester and recycled nylon. Additionally, Interloop has committed to the Textile Exchange challenge to achieve 100% sustainable cotton sourcing by 2025.
Interloop’s Looptrace is an in-house developed traceability platform that monitors the activities of 42,000 farmers to ensure transparency throughout the supply chain. It was launched in September 2021.
Loopkisan is an advanced farm management application, initially tested with 15 organic farmers, that facilitates direct data entry and provides instant insight into farming methodologies. When integrated with Looptrace, it improves transparency.
Continuing its commitment to community development, Interloop launched its third mobile health clinic in Punjab. This initiative has reached more than 35,000 people so far, with a focus on improving health services for women and children within rural farming communities.
