On Wednesday, the United States Ministry of Justice abandoned all criminal procedures against two co-accused of President Donald Trump in the case of classified documents in Florida, annihilating any legal risk that the pair could have faced.
Trump Valet Walt Nauta and the director of goods of Mar-A-Lago, Carlos de Oliveira, were accused of conspiracy with Trump to hinder an FBI investigation into the hoarding of classified documents that the Republican took with him when he Leaving the White House after its first presidential term.
US District Judge Aileen Cannon rejected the Trump affair in July, saying that the prosecutor who brought him, special lawyer Jack Smith, was illegally appointed by the Ministry of Justice in November 2022. .
However, an appeal of the dismissal of accusations against Nauta and Olivera remained unanswered. On Wednesday, prosecutors informed the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, based in Atlanta, that they had withdrawn, officially putting the end of the case.
“The United States of America voluntarily becomes rejecting its appeal with prejudices,” the prosecutors wrote. “The government has conferred a lawyer for the respondents Waltine Nauta and Carlos de Oliveira, who do not oppose voluntary dismissal.”
The Ministry of Justice had previously undertaken not to make the public report Smith on the survey on classified documents until the procedure remained in progress against Nauta and Oliveira.
But the Ministry of Justice of the Trump administration should largely maintain the report under the permanent envelopes.
The boxes have moved, prosecutors said
Trump was accused of having taken thousands of documents containing some of the country’s most sensitive national security secrets when he left the White House in January 2021 and storing them in the case of random domain in his Mar-A- field Lago in Florida. Another document seems to be in possession of Trump in a property in the New Jersey he has.
The accusation of 37 counts included alleged violations of the Espionage Act. The charges included references to dozens of top secret or secret documents.
Prosecutors accused Trump of having compressed Nauta and Oliveira to hide video sequences from federal investigators after publishing a summons for this. The prosecutors allegedly alleged that video sequences had captured Nauta by moving documents of documents in and outside a storage room before a visit to the investigators.
According to his indictment, from Oliveira would have told another name of Trump without name that “the boss wanted the server to have deleted”, in reference to surveillance images of the inappropriate boxes.
The survey on classified documents was referred for the first time to prosecutors in 2022 after the National Archives and Records Administration of the United States attempted for more than a year to recover the presidential files of Trump. A search of his succession in Florida in August 2022 raised many Republicans, who complained of the Ministry of Justice under the administration of Joe Biden, was going after a political rival.
Smith also abandoned a separate criminal case after Trump faced a federal indictment for actions that challenged his defeat in 2020 against Biden and were part of his supporters of January 6, 2021, the riot of the American Capitol.
