CES 2025 is in full swing. And in addition to cutting-edge technology, the event is full of truly weird gadgets. Here are some of the strangest ones we’ve seen.
Mirumi
While the show was full of useful robots, like a robot vacuum cleaner that can reach small heights, Mirumi is a different breed. The furry, and admittedly cute, robot is designed to attach to the handle of a purse or backpack. Thanks to the built-in sensors, it will detect the presence of someone nearby and interact with others. The head will move in different ways to express a baby’s qualities and emotions. When you approach to touch it, the robot will act like a shy baby and turn its head away.
If you can’t resist, Mirumi will be available from mid-2025 thanks to a crowdfunding campaign. It should cost around $70 and available in gray or pink.
Kirin electric salt spoon
There is no need to pass the salt when using the Kirin electric salt spoon. The gadget uses a small electric current to concentrate the taste of salt and umami in food. The company claims that using the spoon can actually increase the saltiness of foods. There are four salinity settings to choose from.
The salt spoon is on sale in Japan for around $125. Kirin is looking to expand the spoon globally in the coming years.
Leafy Pod
If you don’t have a green thumb, LeafyPod might scare you. The device is a smart planter that uses AI to help water the plant properly and provide real-time notification on the health of the plant. It even connects to Amazon Alexa and Google Home to be part of a smart home ecosystem. What makes the system strange is that using the built-in app can alert you if it needs something like more light, water, or something else. I get enough notifications throughout the day. The last thing I want to see is my plants telling me they are on the path to a slow, agonizing death.
You can pre-order the LeafyPod from $148 for a single planter. Orders should arrive from April.
LG AeroCat Tower
A number of exciting new gadgets for pets have been revealed at CES. The bizarre LG AeroCat Tower offers something for you and a feline friend. In addition to an air purifier for your home, it also serves as a comfortable cat perch. Built-in sensors can track a cat’s weight and how long it sleeps. When a cat climbs into bed, the air purifier automatically turns off to minimize noise.
LG has not provided any information on retail pricing or availability.
