Pope Francis woke up and continued his therapies on Monday after a quiet evening, the 10th day of his hospitalization for a complex pulmonary infection which caused the first stages of kidney failure, said the Vatican.
“The night went well, the pope was sleeping and resting,” he said. The 88 -year -old pope continues to eat and does not receive artificial or liquid nutrition, said the Vatican, adding that he was in a good mood.
A medical bulletin was expected later during the day. Later Monday, Vatican No. 2, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, was to lead a night prayer of the Rosary on Place Saint-Pierre.
Late Sunday, doctors reported that blood tests showed “early and light renal failure” which was nevertheless under control. They said that Francis had stayed in critical condition, but that he had not known other respiratory crises since Saturday.

Francis, who has pneumonia in the two lungs, received high additional oxygen flows and, on Sunday, was alert, reactive and assisted by the mass. They said his prognosis had been kept.

The doctors said that Francis’ state was touch and Go, given his age, fragility and preexisting pulmonary disease. They warned that the main threat confronted with Francis is sepsis, a serious blood infection that can occur as a complication of pneumonia.
To date, there has been no reference to any beginning of Septicemia in the medical updates provided by the Vatican.
This hospitalization is now the longest of Francis than the Pope. He spent 10 days at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome in 2021 after being withdrawn from 33 centimeters (13 inches) from his colon.
Sunday, in New York, Cardinal Timothy Dolan recognized what the church leaders in Rome did not say publicly: that the Catholic faithful were united “at the bedside of a dying father”.
“While our Holy Father, Pope Francis, is in a very, very fragile health, and probably close to death,” said Dolan in his homily of the chair of Saint-Patrick cathedral, although he has said later to the journalists he hoped and prayed for Francis to “rebound” would rebound “would rebound” would rebound “would rebound” would rebound “would rebound” would rebound “would bounce” would bounce “would bounce” would bounce “would bounce” would bounce “would bounce” would rebound “would rebound” would rebound “would rebound” would rebound “would rebound” bounce back. “
Francis’ state has rekindled speculation about what could happen if it becomes unconscious or otherwise disabled, and if it could resign.
