Hideo Kojima announced during his SXSW opening speech that Death Stranding 2 of Kojima Productions will be debuting on June 26, 2025 on PlayStation.
Sony also announced that there will be a collector’s edition (on PlayStation.com, and pre -orders start on March 17). Norman Reedus (who plays the main character Sam in Death Stranding and Death Stranding 2) joined Kojima on stage.
Kojima also showed a trailer for Death Stranding 2: on the beach, with tons of cinematographic scenes. At the start of the panel session, Kojima said he had released Death Stranding, then a few weeks later, the pandemic started. The trailer has shown many scenes on the beach, where death ends. There are strange giant black creatures with hands where they should be. There is a kiss between Sam and Fragile (played by Lea Seydoux), and talk about how death cannot separate them.
The little baby who is a constant companion for Sam in the first match is Lou. Lou is now a young child and must be protected by fragiles while soldiers attack him on the beach. And so Lou seems to be a pawn in a wider struggle. The environments are so surreal and creative. And you can see how much work Kojima, who edited the trailer, puts in the construction of the world of Death Stranding 2. You can also see how crazy Hideo Kojima is crazy.
Higgs, played by Troy Baker, returns as bad in the game. He was so popular that Kojima said he couldn’t kill him and had to bring him back. Baker’s face will appear in the game and he will also sing!
“I really felt bad,” Kojima said, while humanity is practically destroyed by a pandemic in the game, which made its debut on November 8, 2019. He noted that the first game was all about the need for humans to be connected, because the pandemic had separated them. Sam was one of the important births who took plans to people who have moved away.
Baker said he liked how much he liked to work with Reedus and said that if you don’t get along with the screen and you will not have magic on the screen. Reedus called Kojima a genius and thanked her for putting her in the game.
But after the pandemic, Kojima had to rethink this while the pandemic spread the germs from one person to another and had to think more about the connection. The result is Death Stranding 2.
Kojima said Higgs would behave so strangely that you reach the end and probably throw the controller. Woodkid was also released on stage. His song was in the trailer. He said Kojima called him 2.5 years ago and asked him to come to Japan and write a song. He stayed for a few weeks, inspired by the tradition of the game and the great performances. Kojima loved it.
There will also be an orchestral music for Death Stranding music from November 8 in Sydney, Australia, and the Strands of Harmony Tour will go around the world. There will also be a special black watch by the character of Hamilton on sale as the game comes out.
“It’s all about connection,” said Kojima. “And also fans. They were connected with me. I was so happy. Death to stranding is a question of isolation, then we had the pandemic. Death Stranding 2 is like post-Covid. I thought about the future.
In the trailer, it should be noted that the United States, which preceded the government of death, had a culture of firearms which spread to “this continent”. There are also much more fight in the game. There are so many shooting scenes that it seems that the game is much more a combat shooter. But there are still crazy moments “only kojima” as a little shoulder character.
