The Japanese company discusses an agreement that could enhance the flea designer supported by Oracle Corp. About $ 6.5 billion, including debt, according to people. A transaction can be announced in the coming weeks, they said.
Bloomberg News reported last month that SoftBank and Chip Designer Arm Holdings PLC, which belongs to the majority by SoftBank, had expressed its interest in a takeover of Ampère.
Although talks are at an advanced stage, they could still be delayed or wavering, said people, asking not to be identified to discuss confidential information. The representatives of Ampère, Arm and Softbank refused to comment.
An agreement for Ampère, whose first donors also include the capital-investment company Carlyle Group Inc., would add to a wave of flea companies that seek to capitalize on a boom for artificial intelligence expenses. Oracle said last year that it held 29% of amps and can exercise future investment options that would give it control of the business.
Ampère, which manufactures data center machines using ARM technology, was valued at more than $ 8 billion in a minority investment offered by SoftBank in Japan in 2021, Bloomberg News said at the time. But the flea market has become more competitive since then, with several large technological companies rushing to develop the same types of products that empère manufactures.
