President Donald Trump is expected to meet the CEO of US Steel on Thursday while the Vice-President of Japanese Steel praises his offer to buy the steelmaker in difficulty to achieve the president’s objectives.
US Steel CEO David Burritt will meet Trump in the White House, administration officials said a Reuters report.
Trump has already expressed his opposition to the agreement, which former president Joe Biden blocked before leaving his duties. He said in December: “I am totally against American steel formerly large and powerful bought by a foreign company, in this case, Nippon Steel of Japan.”
The meeting comes when Nippon Steel said Thursday that his attempted purchase of Steel is aligning with Trump’s objective of a stronger American before a meeting between the president and the Japanese Prime Minister.
Japanese Steel said in a statement that its acquisition from US Steel “contributes to Trump’s objectives to promote American investments, create American jobs and strengthen American manufacturing through new investments and advanced technology transfer.”
“We are convinced that our acquisition plan is the best for us Steel,” journalists told the Vice-President of Nippon Steel on Thursday, Takahiro Mori an agreement. “”
