Pat Riley may well be the biggest Chiefs of Kansas City Fan Sunday.
Almost four decades ago, the famous NBA coach was ahead of the curve. After winning his second consecutive championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1988, Riley had three consecutive.
But Riley’s business ceiling was underway, and he decided to file a brand for the term “three peat”.

A quick search for “three peat” in the repertoire of American patents and brands shows that Riles & Company Inc. is the owner of the term.

Riley was never able to capitalize because his Lakers fell to Bad Boy Detroit Pistons the following season. However, when the Chicago Bulls won three tracks in a row in 1993, Riley was paid a pile. He also brought money when the Bulls finished three other people 1998 and again in 2000 when the Yankees did.
