Write Warz is the first recently launched title of Boltz Entertainment, a cooperative celebration game that transforms the act of narration into a strategic war (and often funny) against your opponents. Drawing on the tradition of Jackbox style titles like Quiplash or Rifftrax, Write Warz rather offers a longer avenue of narration with friends, because up to 6 players can come together to build the story. The game is launched on Steam in Early Access on March 6, with horror and pirate themes.
Each game in Write Warz is a Round Robin style iteration where each round, the players each contribute to one or two sentences. The writing of the winner is added the story, etc., with the invitation of each story being determined by the “adjustment” at stake – on the theme of horror on the theme of the pirate, etc. Each player has an avatar chosen which, if the player’s sentence is elected, can grant a buff or a beginning on themselves and the other players. Depending on the type of game chosen, there may be other complications, such as additional objectives in the form of words or attacks in the round that players can use to shorten the time or the number of words of their opponent.
Richard Boltz, CEO of Boltz Entertainment, told Gamesbeat more on the origins of the game, in particular how she was inspired by a naval tradition that her father spoke to her: “It is the 1970s, so there has no mobile phones. So what they would do is that they had these registers in their quarter of work. They would have two people who work with a job, then after eight or 10 hours, they would have two new people who would relieve them. When the two new people entered the quarter of work, they had a big book with a sentence that wrote there, and the two new people would add two new sentences to history. It continued throughout the week, and that was what they were looking forward to most of their quarter work. It became such a success in my father’s small work area that it has become something on the scale of the ship where the head of the crew would read this story at the end of the week at the whole crew . »»
Beat the writer’s block with the help of friends
Currently, the game has two themes or different types of stories to write: Horror, which borrows Lovecraftian style novels for its prompts; And Pirate Adventure, with prompts on handle stories on the high seas. Depending on the Steam page of the game, Boltz makes other themes, including a theme Elves vs Samurai d ‘Inspiration anime. Each round has unique mechanisms that shake the gameplay – Pirate Adventure, for example, has a mechanic between rounds that allows players to buy offensive or defensive items to use each other.
Boltz also noted that Warz’s writing does not necessarily need to be played in a party setting – the game has both online matchmaking for people at ease with random people, and Robots AI trained with language models that can be used as an adversaries. The two came from the players’ comments. “When we put the demo online, we noticed that many people did not necessarily have a group of friends with whom they could play … We added the AI in the game if you wish. If you don’t have enough players and want to play against bots, you can play the game for yourself. If you are in a personalized game and you only have two people, but you want to play with six, you can add the AI robots, and they will interact like a human. We have even programmed personalized personalities in the game, so we have more than 30 different writing styles that the robots will use. Some robots will rhyme. Some robots will write as if they were a Greek philosopher. Some of them will write like their Tolkien. People wanted it in the game, so we added it. »»
According to the developer, he also works on other items that players want, including streamer integrations and a potential drinking game mode. “We have heard everything say:” You must have it in schools, because you have gamified creative writing “. We heard: “You must have the mode of alcohol consumption”. If there is a group of writers who have a writer’s block, they could all sit here and go into personalized game mode and all try to understand what to write afterwards. It could be used for the script and the production of films. There are a million uses for the game, and we try to check boxes for everyone. »»
