Once upon a time, milk came into three options: whole, low in bold and scanning. Maybe chocolate, if you’re lucky.
Now there are apparently as much Milk varieties As there are bad breakfast cereals for you: nut milk, flax milk, oat milkgoat milk. A less known variety you may meet at the grocery store is A2 milk.
What is A2 milk?
A2 milk is cow’s milk which mainly contains an A2 beta box, which is allegedly easier for your body to digest and absorb. It is different from most cow’s milk available in the United States, which contains a mixture of A2 beta box and beta A1 box.
First popularized by the base of New Zealand The A2 milk companyA2 Milk was sold for the first time in 2003 and has now become a $ 2 billion.
Depending on the company, A2 milk can be found in more than 29,000 retailers Apart from the United States, including large area stores like Costco and Walmart. Like ordinary milk, A2 is available in whole varieties, reduced and skimmed fat.
Milk A1 against Milk A2
A2 milk manufacturers claim that the A1 beta-case is difficult for some people to digest and can interfere with the maintenance of healthy blood sugar. (Research is rare on the two claims; more on this subject in a second.)
Casein is the largest group of protein in milk, including 82% of its total protein content. The remaining 18% is the best known Lactoserum protein. There is 13 different types casein; A1 and A2 are the most common.
How is A2 milk made and what makes it different?
A2 milk is produced by cows with a genetic variation which gives milk which contains beta-case and lack of beta-box A1. The cows that produce milk containing the A2 beta box are mainly found in Asia, Africa and part of southern Europe. The milk of cows in the Western world generally contains a beta box.
Presumed advantages of A2 milk
So, is A2 milk advantages on ordinary milk? “It is difficult to answer this question, because most of the studies concerning A2 milk have been funded by the A2 milk company and the dairy industry, which have interests acquired in the demonstration of services,” explains Dana HunnesPh.D., RD, MPH, senior dietistist at Ronald Reagan Ucla Medical Center.
These are some of the claims that have been made on A2 milk:
1. It’s easier during digestion
A study Funded by A2 Milk Company noted that A1 Beta-Casein takes more people to digest, which can lead to indigestion, bloating and gas. A 2019 research examination Said it can be true, but human studies are limited and others are necessary.
However, in a study Directed by the Purdue University, lactose intolerant participants showed fewer gastrointestinal symptoms after consuming A2 milk compared to conventional cow’s milk.
2. It promotes healthier blood sugar
According to the California Dairy Research FoundationSince the 1980s, some researchers have made unfounded affirmations that milk containing A1 beta box can contribute to unhealthy blood sugar and even compromised cardiovascular function.
The alleged culprit: BCM-7, a amino acid Chain produced when A1 Beta-Casein is digested. The theory is that the BCM-7 can cause disease in people with immune disabilities. But there is no scientific evidence in humans to support this.
Possible risks of milk A2
The risks associated with A2 milk are little different from those associated with most cow’s milks.
Intolerance to lactose
A2 milk contains the same amount of lactose as ordinary cow’s milk. People who have been diagnosed with lactose intolerance can undergo the same digestive upheaval when they drink any type of milk.
Allergies
Because A2 milk is always cow’s milk, it can cause an allergic reaction in people allergic to cow’s milk.
