The history of the box office was somewhat quiet. In other words, for anyone who lives outside China. The animated Chinese blockbuster “Ne Zha 2” was in tears in his native country all year round, and was easily the biggest film of 2025 in the world since early February. Surprisingly, there is a good chance that he will hold the crown for the rest of the calendar year too. Indeed, the Breakout suite of director Yang has just passed the $ 2 billion mark just over a month after his theatrical race.
Tuesday, March 4, “Ne Zha 2” had collected $ 2 billion worldwide, including “Spider-Man: No Way Way Home” (1.95 billion dollars) on the global charts of all time. It is now just the seventh film Every to cross the $ 2 Billion Mark, Joining “Avengers: Infinity War” ($ 2.05 Billion), “The Force Awakens” ($ 2.07 Billion), “Titanic” ($ 2.26 Billion), “Avatar: The Way of Water” ($ 2.32 Billion), “Avengers: Endgame “($ 2.79 Billion), and” avatar “($ 2.92 billion). When everything is said and done, “Ne Zha 2” is likely to sit behind “Titanic” or “Avatar: The Water of Water” in the first or three places.
To make all this even more remarkable, “Ne Zha 2” did it by making the vast majority of his money in a country. In mid-February, he entered history by becoming the first film forever coarse at least 1 billion dollars in a single country. Yes, he was released outside China, but these figures are drops of water in a bucket, compared. The animated suite has done decent business in the United States which report $ 18.1 million to date. But again, it is a fractional percentage of the overall crude brut of the film. China alone does the heaviness here.
Ne Zha 2 is in the middle of a box office race for ages
“Avengers: Endgame” still holds the record as a fastest film to reach $ 2 billion at the box office, which did it in just 11 days before becoming briefly the biggest film of all time (before “Avatar” resumed the crown). “Ne Zha 2” managed to do it in 33, becoming the second faster.
“Ne Zha 2” is now the only non -Hollywood film to join the $ 2 billion club. It is also the only animated film to have reached such tops at the box office, after having exceeded “Inside Out 2” by Pixar (1.69 billion dollars) a few weeks ago to become the biggest animated film of all time. To say that this film succeeds unexpectedly would be a dramatic understatement. Even so, it is not as if these Chinese superproductions had come out of nowhere.
China has been lucky with success at the local box office in the last decade, with “Wolf Warrior 2” ($ 870 million), “The Wandering Earth” ($ 699 million) and “The Battle At Lake Changjin” ($ 902 million) serving as a few examples. Again, these films have made Chinese ticket buyers almost all their money. The “NE ZHA” origin ($ 742 million) was also a considerable success, although the sequel has really exceeded its predecessor in a shocking way. All this to say, it was only a matter of time before China has, so to speak, its own “infinite war”.
This is why Hollywood can no longer depend on the Chinese public, because the country favors its own outings these days. Even so, it is a very good sign for the health of the world box office. For the future, we wonder, can something challenge “Ne Zha 2” for the Crown in 2025? Maybe “Avatar: Fire and Ash” by James Cameron when he arrived in December.
