The Liverpool star, Cody Gakpo, spoke of the previous interest of Manchester United to sign him while he was still at the PSV.
The Netherlands shone at the PSV before his move in January 2023 in Anfield, and he continued to settle as one of the best attacking players in Europe.
Gakpo spoke in the past of the UTD man who also discussed the signature before finding himself in Liverpool, as you can see in the video interview with Sky Sports in the post on X below…

However, in an interview today with the Liverpool Echo, Gakpo apparently played how concrete things were with the Red Devils.
The 25-year-old insists that he has never been this concrete, which perhaps slightly contradicts the way he spoke of the transfer saga in the past.

Asked about the United Links, Gakpo said: “There was nothing concrete that I heard about. Maybe there was a certain interest, but it was not to the point that I could sign or something, so that I did not know. »»
Gakpo could have been a superb signature for United after showing what he is able to Liverpool, so it is a transfer that the MUFC must regret missing.
United has signed flops like Antony lately, and Gakpo would surely have been a much better addition.
Again, there is no guarantee in football, and Gakpo probably made the right choice to continue its development under Jurgen Klopp, and now Arne Slot.
So many better players have returned to United, with many of their recent costly signatures resembling shadows of their old self.
Maybe it would also have happened with Gakpo in what is clearly not an excellent environment for players at the moment.
