Mansfield Town refused to comment on the continuing availability of Lucas Akins after starting his Ligue 1 match against Wigan Athletic Tuesday evening, just hours after admitting the death of a cyclist in an accident.
Adrian Daniel, 33, died 10 days after being struck by the Mercedes G350 of Akins in Huddersfield in March 2022.
Attacker Akins, 36, pleaded guilty to an accusation of having caused death by negligent or reckless conduct during a hearing at Leeds Crown runs on Tuesday.
Akins, who will be sentenced to the same court on April 24, then played the first half of the Mansfield 0-0 draw against Wigan on Tuesday evening.
When asked if it was a difficult decision to select Akins, the director of Mansfield, Nigel Cloud, said BBC Radio Nottingham: “We cannot comment, I’m afraid.
“We have known it for some time. It has not happened, but we are unable to comment.”
