The PlayStation 5 Pro has always been a machine for lovers of hardcore graphics, with a high price of $ 700 and a owner scaling technology called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). PlayStation now doubles this market by making the PS5 Pro even more technological power by implementing something more like the recent FSR 4 technology of AMD in 2026.
The news comes from tECH Interview Digital Foundry Site With the guru of PlayStation technology and the architect of the main system, Mark Cerny, who confirmed that the PSSR will evolve in a new form which looks more like FSR 4 next year as part of the collaboration of Amethyst between Sony and AMD.
“Our goal is to have something very similar to that of FSR 4 available on PS5 PRO for the titles of 2026 as the next evolution of the PSSR,” explains Cerny.
The foundations of the FSR, which uses automatic learning for instantly upper scale images by bypassing all the material performance and increasing a 720p image to 4K and is a hybrid of CNN models and transformers, were born from the collaboration efforts of Sony and AMD and the PS5 PRO was apparently built with this upgrade in mind. However, it can take a little time for the games to benefit from this specific implementation.
Although PlayStation is still in the implementation phase for FSR 4, they still encourage developers to use the PSSR on the PS5 Pro. Although this will probably see some use in the near future on the equipment currently available, it is not difficult to see that Sony turns to the future and the next generation of consoles with these stages. The implementation of PlayStation 5 still maintains a firmly rooted foot while they plunge their toes with a subsequent collaboration.
For a theoretical PlayStation 6, we could even see something that is not similar to FSR 4, but the actual implementation of FSR 4. Or maybe even a PSSR 2 which completely jumps it.
