According to officials, almost a quarter of a million Segway scooters are recalled due to safety risks.
The recall was announced Thursday by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall concerns the 220,000 units of the Segway Ninebot Max G30P and Max G30LP Kickslooters.
According to the CPSC, the recall has been published due to the model folding mechanism, which can be defective.
“The folding mechanism can fail and ensure that the handlebars or the stem folds while the scooter is used, putting a risk of falling for consumers,” said the opinion.

On Thursday, Segway received 68 reports of folding mechanism chess. These caused around twenty injuries, ranging from abrasions and bruises to “lacerations and broken bones”.
Segway advises the owners of the scooters recalled to stop “immediately” to use them.

“Consumers must immediately stop using the recalled scooters and contact the Segway to receive information to determine whether the folding mechanism should be adjusted and to receive a free maintenance kit,” said the recall.
“The kit includes tools and instructions to check and tighten the folding mechanism and keep it properly maintained.”

The CPSC also noted that vehicles, which were manufactured in China and Malaysia, sold between $ 600 and $ 1,000 from January 2020 to February 2025. Consumers could have bought the devices at Best Buy, Costco, Walmart, Target and Sam’s Club, as well as Segway.com and Amazon.com.
The CPSC also included physical descriptions of scooters, in case the owners of Segway do not know if they have the recalled models.
