“We identify buildings and installations that are not fundamental for government operations or non -essential properties for elimination,” said GSA on its website. “The sale guarantees that the dollars of taxpayers are no longer spent for vacant or underused federal spaces. The dissemination of these assets helps to eliminate costly maintenance and allows us to reinvest in high-quality work environments that support agency missions.”
The agency said that a sale could potentially save more than $ 430 million in annual operating costs.
Among the list of properties are the head office of Washington for the energy departments, agriculture, the building of the American Red Cross and the staff management office.

The decision to sell the properties seems to be linked to President Donald Trump’s efforts to reduce the magnitude of the federal government.

It is not known how long sales could occur, according to the media. Federal law dictates that surplus goods are offered to other federal agencies, governments of states and premises, homeless shelters and other non -profit organizations before being able to be sold in private.
