A tourist in Mexico faces accusations after having traveled the stairs of one of the seven new wonders of the world before the furious residents took justice by beating the man.
Images of spectators show the individual – the WHO to the authorities has not yet appointed – on the scale on the side of the Kukulcan temple in Chichén Itzá in Yucatan last week.
The man was one of the two separate visitors filmed by climbing the pyramid on Thursday, while about 9,000 tourists flocked to the temple – called El Castillo – to observe the spring equinox, depending on the local point of sale Mexico News Daily.

“He escaped us, even if we monitor the west side of the temple,” said a member of the National Guard to Mexico News. “He went beyond us. He is clearly in good physical condition.”
The video shows one of the men on a step of the stages while the security guards continued it. One of the intruders, a 38 -year -old German tourist, would have tried to hide inside the pyramid chamber, but was found by the authorities and escorted out of the historic site.
Officers and staff of the Mexican National Guard of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) tried to protect the man, who was attacked by the crowd while angry spectators shouted that he should be “sacrificed” – referring to the human sacrifices which were formerly made at the top of the pyramid by the ancient Mayans, according to the local newspaper.

The incident occurs while thousands of tourists flock to chickyen Itzá to attend an event known as the descent of the feathered snake, a natural phenomenon where sunlight throws a snake -shaped shadow along the stairs of the pyramid, during the spring equinox.
The site organizes a four -day program with activities that customers can appreciate. However, events do not include climbing the pyramid of almost 1,000 years, which was prohibited in 2006 to protect the structure.
The two tourists were arrested and faced potential fines under article 55 of the federal law on archaeological, artistic and historical monuments and the areas of Mexico, according to Mexico News.

An surprisingly similar incident took place two years ago when a Polish tourist chose to scale the same pyramid.
The man was filmed on the stairs of the sacred temple before a spectator hit him with a stick while the authorities stopped. The man was detained in prison for 12 hours and sentenced to a fine of 5,000 pesos, according to Mexico City Daily Post.

The authorities of Chickhen Itzá did not immediately respond to the request for comments from Fox News Digital.
