The Watchdog of the United Kingdom in privacy has launched surveys into three social media companies on how they protect the confidentiality of children on their respective platforms.
The Office of the Information Commissioner (ICO) announced today Let him examine how Tiktok uses personal information aged 13-17 to recommend videos, “in the light of increasing concerns” concerning how young people are presented with harmful content.
At the same time, ICO also examines how Reddit and Imgur evaluate the age of its users in the United Kingdom, as well as on the way they use the personal information of children.
Although it is still early, ICO says that it examines if there have been counterfeits of data protection legislation before deciding on its next steps.
The probes are part of a broader thrust of the British authorities to provide social platforms in control. Last year, the OFCOM regulator launched a single survey abandoned this probe last month. And in 2023, the ICO sentenced a fine to Tiktok $ 16 million to provide services to children under the age of 13 without having explicit consent of parents to process their data.
