A cop on leave in New Jersey was charged and imprisoned after having pretended to enter a residence and assaulted two victims last week.
Rebecca Sayegh, 32, was accused of burglary of invasion of domicile and two chiefs of assault, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. It was also reserved with two criminal mischief chiefs, as well as terrorist threats and resistance to arrest.
The accusations arise from an incident of April 25 involving a “domestic disturbance” in the canton of Berkeley. The officers were alerted to the scene around 11:20 p.m.
“The agents who replied discovered that an individual, later identified as Sayegh – a police officer of the canton of Toms River on leave – had broken the door before the residence, entered the residence, then attacked and threatened two victims inside the residence,” said the prosecutor’s office.

The 32 -year -old also damaged the hood of a vehicle belonging to one of the victims, who was parked in the aisle at the time.
“Sayegh was arrested on the scene – after having resisted efforts for placing it peacefully in arrest,” the statement said.
“It was originally meant with the accusations via a summons pending a first appearance at the courtyard of the County of Ocean,” added the prosecutor’s office. “Due to the serious nature of the accusations, Sayegh was recharged through a mandate on April 28, 2025.”
Sayegh was then transported to Ocean County prison, where she is currently staying while waiting for a detention hearing.

In 2021, Sayegh received a class B award for his valiant efforts during a house fire, according to the Toms River police service.
