On Wednesday, the British Supreme Court ruled on a woman who was born biologically.
The result excludes transgender people from the legal definition and comes after a long legal quarrel between For women in Scotland (FWS) and the Scottish government.
The decision was based on a legal challenge of 2022 provided by the FWS against the definition of the Scottish Parliament of 2018 of the term “woman”, which included people with protected characteristics of gender reallocation, those who live as a woman, and the people offering to undergo, who have undergone or undergo gender renewal, The British Supreme Court website says.
Scottish civil courts have found that the definition was illegal because it deals with questions that do not fall under the legislative jurisdiction of the Scottish Parliament. It was updated in 2023.
However, FWS has decided to reverse the new definition because it indicated that a person with a certificate of gender recognition (RCMP), recognizing that their sex is a woman, is considered a woman.
After a beak of controversies in the Scottish courts, FWS appealed to the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom.

On Wednesday, five judges judged that the UK equality law meant that trans women can be excluded from certain single-sex groups and spaces, including locker rooms, homeless shelters, swimming areas and medical services or advice only for women.
However, the court reiterated that the decision did not exceed trans persons from their rights, and that they are still legally protected against discrimination in the United Kingdom, the decision declares that certain protections are reserved for organic women but not for transgender women.
The court declared that the unanimous decision should not be considered a victory on the one hand, but several groups of women who supported the appeal celebrated outside the court and welcomed it as a major victory in their efforts to protect the designated spaces for women, according to the Associated Press.
“Everyone knows what sex is and you cannot change it,” said Susan Smith, co -director of For Women Scotland.
“It is common sense, common sense of basic sense and the fact that we resulted in a rabbit burrow where people have tried to deny science and deny reality, and I hope it will now see us in reality,” she continued.
The decision brings some clarity to the United Kingdom to a global discussion.
