After 529 days on the LAM, Valerie Le Teckel Miniature was finally rescued.
Valerie, a tiny Wiener dog with a pink pass, disappeared for the first time in November 2023 after having escaped his pen on a beach on Kangaroo Island in Australia-Meridional and fled into the bush in the surrounding Stokes bay.
Its owners, with the help of the residents and staff of Kangala Wildlife Rescue, spent the next five days looking for their friend before abandoning and returning home in South New Wales.
And while lost dogs often capture hearts, Valerie drew international attention while the world looked at and wait, closely after several observations have been reported in recent months.
“Valerie was saved safely and is in good shape,” Kangala Wildlife Rescue Announced on his Facebook group Friday evening, to share that a well-worn t-shirt which formerly belonged to the owner of Valerie was the key to his help.
“We were able to snatch the small bands, and we started the process of adding more and more bits to the trap site as and when,” said Lisa Karran, one of Kangala’s directors, in a video shared on the social media platform, explaining that the final rescue came when Valerie’s curiosity was right for her And she became interested in the cage, which was equipped with toys, a bed, hidden food and more clothes from its owners.
Finally, Karran explained, the little dog started to enter the cage and, at one point, while she sniffed for hidden food, they were able to trigger the door of the closed cage.

Knowing that the dog would probably be nervous and shy after her free time, Karran said she had put the “Tatty” shirt now and started to approach the dog, making a slow introduction.
“She came, would sniff and we were just going through her clues until she was completely calm and huddled in our towers. It was incredible,” said Karran.
At the end of last month, Valerie made the headlines of the world when she was spotted on surveillance cameras by Kangala Wildlife Rescue still carrying her pink and living collar, more than 500 days after her disappearance.

“No one thought that a small dash like Valerie would survive alone in the wild, but more than 12 months after her disappearance, regular reports began to arrive at around a dachshund with a pink collar seen about 15 kilometers from Bay Stokes,” said the animal rescue agency in an article on Facebook on March 21.
On March 27, a staff member of Kangala Rescue reported an observation, saying that this allowed the team to reduce the research area, adding that he could now feed Valerie and have installed cameras to follow his movements.
“She looks really healthy,” confirmed the staff member in a Separate Facebook video.
Since its rescue, the Valerie care team has worked to develop the dog’s confidence and strength.
“Of course, we had his favorites,” Karran said about the meals brought for the first time to Valerie. “Road chicken and his favorite dog food – they were the first things to help him recognize that we were safe and that we were not a threat.”
She also wears a special harness “to the exhaust test to make sure that she cannot run away again.
Valerie will soon be gathered with its owners of “on the Moon”, said the Kangala team, but there will first be a short period of decompression and relaxation for the small dog.
“We want to bring it back to its beautiful owners in the best possible way, and no longer make it more trauma or stress. Because undoubtedly in 16 months, she would have crossed a lot. ”
