Apple has changed its rules of App Store in the United States to allow applications to link users to their own websites so that they can buy subscriptions or other digital goods.
This change comes after a US court ruled in favor of epic games in a case against the manufacturer of iPhone, ordering the latter not to prohibit applications to include features that could redirect users to their own websites to make digital purchases.
“The guidelines on examining applications have been updated to comply with a court decision in the United States concerning the buttons, external links and other calls for action in applications”, Apple Apple said in a blog article.
The trial that Epic Games brought in 2020 concerned the amount of the control that Apple made on the transactions carried out in the applications hosted on its app store. In 2021, the game studio won an injunction that ordered Apple to give developers more options to redirect users to their own websites so that they can avoid paying the technology giant a 30%reduction.
After the failure of the injunction against the injunction, Apple last year began to allow other applications to link and use non -papple payment mechanisms, but he nevertheless took a 27%commission, and also added what criticisms called “the screens of fear”.
This week’s decision means that Apple must stop showing these “fear screens”, and the company has already deleted the directives around How these screens and links must contain a certain language.
We have asked Apple to confirm whether this would cease to charge applications a commission on payments made via external links, and we will update history if we hear.
