A British judge ordered that the singer winner of a Grammy, Chris Brown, released on Wednesday under a deposit of 5 million pounds (9.3 million dollars CDN) while facing allegations that he beat and seriously injured a music producer with a bottle in a London nightclub in 2023.
The decision of a Southwark Crown Court judge revives the world tour of Brown, which was launched when another judge ordered him detained after being charged last week for having caused serious bodily lesions with intention.
Judge Tony Baumgartner said Brown could continue this tour, including several judgments in the United Kingdom, but should pay the deposit to guarantee his appearance before the court.
Brown was originally to appear in court on June 13.
If he had been detained so far, Brown would have missed at least two dates on his next tour, which begins next month in Europe.
Brown, 36, is accused of launching an attack not caused against producer Abe Diaw in the Tape nightclub in the chic district of Mayfair in February 2023 when he was during his last tour.
Prosecutor Hannah Nicholls said last week before the Manchester magistrate court that Brown struck Diaw several times with a bottle, then hit and kicked him in an attack on a surveillance camera in front of a club full of people.
The American musician Omololu Akinlolu, 38, who occurs under the name of Baby, and is a friend of Brown, was also accused of the attack.
Neither Brown nor Akinlolu have yet pleaded. The two men were ordered to appear again in court on June 20.
Brown, who burst into the music scene in adolescence in 2005, won his first Grammy for the best R&B album in 2011 for FAME then won his second in the same category for 11:11 (Deluxe) Earlier this year. Its successes include songs such as Run,, Kiss And Without you.
His tour should start on June 8 in Amsterdam, before starting the North America shows in July, including two performances in Toronto.
