Jason Priestley had different reactions to the death of his Beverly Hills, 90210 Costares, Luke Perry And Shannen Doherty.
“I am in the acceptance part [of grief] With both. Obviously, Luke’s death was much more shocking than that of Shannen, “said Priestley, 55 years old 90210 alum Jennie Garth Tuesday April 29, episode of her “I choose” podcast. “While Shannon was sick … I had the chance to spend time with her. I made sure to say everything I wanted to tell him. ”
Before Doherty’s death at the age of 53 in July 2024, the actress was frank about her battle against cancer. Priestley added that the quality time he had spent with Doherty gave him “a certain closure”. However, he admitted that losing another close friend was “difficult”.
“Having lost two of our comrades is already shocking,” he said, noting that he and his former distribution comrades have a “relatively young” age.
While Priestley was able to reconcile with the death of Doherty, he admitted that he had the opposite experience with regard to Perry. (In March 2019, Perry unexpectedly died at 52 after having undergone a stroke.)
“The death of Luke was so shocking and came out of blue, as it took me much more time to reconcile this and what it meant,” said Priestley. “Unfortunately for me, I lost a few other very close friends … in my adult years. So, unfortunately, I start to be good enough to say goodbye to my friends. ”
Garth, 53, then asked if Priestley remembered how he had learned of Perry’s death. The actor reminded him that it was she who told him.
“I was in the kitchen in my house, and the phone rang. It was you, and I said:” Hey, Jennie, what’s going on? “” Recalls Priestley that she had asked if he had heard of Perry.
“And I said to myself:” No. Then you told me what was going on and where it was and what was going on, “he continued. “And you said,” I’m going to remind you when I know more. “I felt like you were in a way the information center.”
Garth admitted that she did not remember being the person who had said to Priestley.
“I was in the hospital trying to see him, but they would not let anyone enter. And they made me say that he was not even there, but I knew he was, “she reflected. “I can’t believe I forgot that I called you, like, it’s blocked for me.”
Priestley told Garth that he was not surprising that she did not remember, because it was an emotional experience for all.
“You were in shock like the rest of us,” he said. “It was difficult; it was difficult. That day – these few days were fun for anyone.”
Garth added that from the whole 90210 The cast has such a deep connection when the tragedy strikes, it affects them stronger than the others.
“There is this link that [lasts] Not only until our last breath, but until the end of time, “she said.” I have the impression that we are intertwined and connected to a level such as when something bad will happen to you, I will enter this conversation. When something bad happens to me, Brian [Austin Green] will come to this conversation. Like, we are all so connected in this wild way.
Priestley added that he was so grateful to have his Costars as his “extended family” because he grew up in a small house. Garth shared that after losing Doherty and Perry, none of them takes their friendships for “granted”.
“I think maybe before we lost Luke, maybe it was a little easier for us not to think about it so much,” she said. “But now, it’s just in front of my mind all the time, how grateful I am to have you all and have this shared experience that we can never forget and people will never forget.”
