More than 400 flights inside and outside the Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in Newark, New Jersey, were delayed on Thursday, and more than 200 flights were canceled due to granting shortages in terms of air traffic control and construction on one of the three tracks.
The airport provided travelers an update on social networks Thursday afternoon, advising them on delays and cancellations.
“You can undergo delays and cancellations at @Ewrairport due to a combination of @FAA staff shortages, @FAA equipment problems and wind conditions,” published EWR on X. “Please check the status of your flight with your airline before heading for airport.”
In another position earlier during the day, the airport highlighted construction as one of the reasons for delays.

An X user asked when the construction had to be finished, and the airport replied, saying: “One of our tracks is closed for the repairs necessary from now until mid-June 2025.”
“We work with our partners airlines to minimize the impacts, but please check with your airline for updates because flight schedules can be assigned,” wrote EWR.
Another X user asked why Newark had endowment problems, “every day”.
“Hello,” replied the airport. “Due to the challenges under FAA endowment, EWR is experiencing operational disruptions. Please check your flight status with your airline.”

The FAA did not respond to the request for comments from Fox News Digital on staff shortages and travel disturbances.
However, disturbances seem to be a growing trend in Newark International.
The FAA said on Monday that the series of problems had prompted it to considerably slow traffic at the airport, which prompted United Airlines to divert at least 35 flights to other airports.
United – which is the largest carrier of the airport located just outside New York in New Jersey – told Reuters that a dysfunction of FAA equipment had caused significant disruption, and he expects cancellations and delays for the rest of the day due to FAA endowment problems.

The FAA is around 3,500 controllers below the targeted endowment. A persistent shortage of controllers has delayed flights and, in many facilities, controllers work on compulsory overtime and six -day weeks.
